Cairo hotel will go under the management to English hotel chain

One of the most luxurious hotels in Cairo - The Shepheard Hotel - will be transferred under the operational management of luxury hotels chain Rocco Forte Collection, headquartered in London. According to the agreement signed between Rocco Forte Collection and EGOTH, British hotel chain will take part in restoration of Rocco Forte Collection, which the Egyptian authorities plan to start soon. It is expected that Rocco Forte Collection will be able to competently engage in the management of the hotel immediately after the completion of the modernization of the hotel, in 2012.

EGOTH Company, known as one of the largest hotel holdings in Egypt in the field of luxurious hotel real estate, will remain the owner of the hotel.

Plans of the company include a total reconstruction of the 279 rooms Shepheard Hotel, one of the primary assets of which is the location: on the bank of the Nile, in the heart of the capital of Egypt. The Egyptian museum and the opera house are located near the hotel.

Shepheard Hotel was founded in 1841, during a period when Egypt was a colony of the British Empire. One of the most famous hotels in Cairo received its name from its founder - an Englishman Samuel Shepheard. During its history, hotel has suffered from fire two times. Shepheard Hotel has acquired its present image during the last large-scale reconstruction, which took place in 1957.

Rocco Forte Collection will start hotel management since November 2009. According to the terms of the contract the hotel before closing for the reconstruction will retain its original name, but become a part of Rocco Forte Collection hotel chain. The beginning of the reconstruction works in the legendary Egyptian hotel is scheduled on December 2010.
