Azerbaijan, which is known as one of the largest oil rich regions of Asia, and its capital Baku in recent years caused a strong interest from major hotel chains. For example, in December 2010 in the capital is expected to open one more luxury hotel. This time it is the Hilton hotel chain. The hotel is located on a central square of Baku, on the site of the former "Azerbaijan" Hotel. The cost of building a new Hilton hotel in Baku is estimated at 140 million dollars.

To date, the Fairmont hotel chain, which is known primarily as a hotel operator of luxury hotels in the U.S. and Canada, is actively developing the hotel market in the former Soviet Union. In addition to the construction of a hotel in Baku Fairmont is planning to open a new hotel in Kiev. The agreement to build a new hotel in the capital of Ukraine was signed between the developer of "Yaroslav’s Val" and Fairmont in 2008. Opening of the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv is planned to coincide with the beginning of the European Football Championship in 2012.
