Sol Melia and IBM: joint IT-management

The Spanish hotel chain Sol Melia signed an agreement with IBM, under which IBM team will be responsible for managing of IT-structure of Sol Melia including an online booking portal www.solmelia.com
The contract signed with IBM, is a part of Sol Melia strategy to overcome the effects of the crisis, which still exist in the modern hotel industry.
Sol Melia hotel chain is one of the largest companies in the hotel business in Spain and in the European hotel market. Implications of the crisis have severely affected the performance of Sol Melia, because most hotels of the network are luxury hotels and luxury resort hotels - the segment that was seriously affected by the crisis.
The agreement with IBM was signed by Sol Melia up to 2014. It also provides tighter control over spending on the organization and maintenance of IT-infrastructure of the company. Optimizing of costs of IT-management will significantly reduce the costs of Sol Melia to maintain its own system of electronic booking and internal management.
The contract covers such areas as management and control of equipment of 140 hotels of the network, including such brands as Grand Melia, Sol, Vacation Club and others. Also IBM will provide for technical support and monitor of the system of online booking in Sol Melia. Electronic business management ERP system and electronic customer service will also be passed to the IBM specialists. In addition, IBM will consult Sol Melia staff on functioning of technical branches of the company.
IBM is not the only American company that cooperates with Sol Melia. For example, recently a Spanish hotel chain began close cooperation with the hotel giant Wyndham, to which it sold its Tryp brand representing in the family of Sol Melia middle class hotels.

Mövenpick: the first hotel on Bali
Chain of luxury hotels Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts became another major international player, which decided to enter the Indonesian hotel market. The company announced its plans to open a new hotel on Bali. Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran will be the first hotel of the network in Indonesia. During the study were taken into account prices offered by the hotels for the period from January to March 2012. The cost of a room in a five-star Suites de la Potiniere hotel was $1958 per night.
