Hotels in Moscow: openings and plans for 2011-2012

World leading hotel companies continue to be interested in Moscow. Many of them have long ago firmly established in the local market, but some are still trying to start its expansion.

Rezidor hotel chain has long been operating in the Russian market. Therefore opening on June 8, 2011 a new company’s hotel near the Belorusskaya railway station demonstrates the tradition of sustained brand promotion in Russia. The hotel was named Radisson Blu Belorusskaya. It is designed for 264 rooms and is a 4-stars hotel. Radisson Blu Belorusskaya is the fifth hotel of the chain in the capital.

Kempinski chain, which still has only one hotel in its portfolio - the famous "Baltschug Kempinski" - intends to open at least one more hotel in Moscow in 2012. The hotel, which has already received the name "Nikolskaya Kempinski Moscow", will be located in a complex of historic buildings near the Lubyanskaya Square. The total number of rooms is 210.

It is worth noting that the segment of luxury hotels in Moscow is presented by impressive range of almost all world leading hotel companies, including Accor, Starwood, Marriott and others. At the same time the capital of Russia lacks quality mid-priced hotels. Most 3* hotels in Moscow were constructed in the USSR.

Perhaps, the situation will bed improved in the near future. The Moscow government considers the formation of the city hotel chain and the formation of an optimal range as one of the priorities in the town planning policy. Thus, in the next five years in the capital it is planned to build 177 new hotels. It will increase the current number of existing hotels in Moscow almost by one third. Currently by the number of hotels per capita Moscow is twice inferior to similar status tourist centers like Paris and London.

Nevertheless, in 2011 in Moscow is scheduled to be opened only one 3* hotel - Azimut Hotel on Danilovskaya manufacture. All other hotels present luxury segment or business class. Among them are Mandarin Oriental Moscow 5*, Grand Hyatt Residences & Spa 5*, Intercontinental Moscow Tverskaya 5*, Four Seasons 5* (former "Moscow" hotel).
