The legendary Parisian hotel Ritz closes for a large-scale restoration. It is planned that the hotel will stop its work in summer 2012. It will be inaccessible to the public for at least two years.

The hotel, which became a symbol of luxury hotel property in the world, where stopped hundreds of celebrities, the hotel, and which is known as a place where Princess Diana dined with Dodi Al Fayed few minutes before her death. Ritz Paris will experience one of the most significant upgrades in its history. The owner magnate Mohamed Al Fayed has set the goal to acquire for the hotel the highest category «Palace», which in France is given only to unique historic hotels offering first-class service.

For the last time Ritz was seriously reconstructed in 1979. So the innovations that will appear in the hotel after the modernization are likely to allow it to get the «Palace» class.
It is known that the reconstruction, which begins in summer 2012, will last at least 27 months. According to The Telegraph newspaper, all 160 rooms of the hotel will retain their classic luxurious look, which will be supplemented with the latest technological innovations. The owner plans to time the hotel opening to the Christmas 2014, or the spring-summer French fashion houses collection shows in January 2015.

Minimum 470 hotel’s employees will have to apply for a new job. Only 30 people from the current staff will retain their jobs during the hotel reconstruction.
The restoration will affect not only the hotel rooms, but also belonging to the Ritz famous restaurant L'Espadon and culinary arts schools Ritz-Escoffier.
Ritz hotel was opened in Paris in 1898. Among its guests were Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel and Ernest Hemingway. Today in the hotel can be met such famous personalities as director Woody Allen and model Kate Moss.
