Tourist industry in New York City is experiencing a new boom. 2011 was another milestone that changed the hotel landscape of "world apple" by adding such landmark hotels as the Mondrian New York, Hyatt 48 Lex and Aloft Brooklyn.

At the same time, New York, despite the huge number of hotels is one of the most attractive cities in the world for hotel developers. Thus, according to the news website bloomberg.com, today about 120 new hotels are being built in New York.

The figure of 120 hotels puts New York on the first place in the hotel industry in the United States in terms of the construction speed. As for the world ranking, here New York holds the third place after Shanghai and Dubai.

At least 50 hotels are scheduled to be opened in New York in 2013. 44 of them are already opened or will be presented in 2011-2012, and at least another 9 hotels will open their doors in 2013. Another 68 hotels are in various stages of completion and will be opened in 2014 and later.

Such significant number of hotels in New York is explained by the current situation on the market. Now here it is cheaper to build than to buy. As of September 2011 the average cost of buying the finished hotel building was about 505 000 dollars per room. At the same time, developers offer building hotels for the average price from 300 000 to 450 000 per room.

In 2011 in New York were put up for sale 14 hotels. Among them are such famous hotels as the Radisson Lexington Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton Midtown-Times Square.

One of the most fashionable leaders of the hotel market in New York is Ian Schrager, the famous hotelier, who is considered to create the concept of "boutique hotel". Thus, Schrager has recently bought a land in Manhattan, where he plans to build a hotel a little less luxurious and more democratic than his previous creations, including the above-mentioned Mondrian New York.
