Český Šternberk: Castle, Cycling Routes and Climbing Area

Český Šternberk Castle was founded around 1241 by Zdeslav of Divišov and remains in the possession of the founding family to this day.

A guided tour of Český Šternberk Castle includes 15 richly furnished rooms on the second upper floor. The castle also houses a unique collection of 545 prints from the time of the Thirty Years’ War. The southern outlying bastion of the castle, known as Hladomorna, now serves as a viewpoint.

Cycling

Cycling Route 3/C, which is approximately 30 km long, passes through Český Šternberk. The Posázavská Cycling Route No. 19 also passes through Český Šternberk. It runs mainly along comfortable paths and roads of the second and third classes.

Climbing

The Český Šternberk climbing sector is located on the right bank of the Sázava, south of the municipality of Malovidy. The Český Šternberk climbing area is a comparatively young area with new routes secured with bolts or pitons.

Stříbrná stěna is the highest wall in the climbing area visible from the railway station and offers beautiful long climbing lines; however, the lower sections are rather brittle. Thus, in this rock section, the visible wall height, the length of the lines and the varying condition of the sections stand as separate characteristics alongside one another.

From Český Šternberk railway station, the climbing area is most easily reached on foot along the railway tracks downstream towards Rataje nad Sázavou. When climbing, you can weigh different aspects separately instead of combining them into a blanket overall picture. Such an approach leaves room for personal priorities without equating the various aspects or having to place them in a fixed order. The weighting you choose is left to your own planning.
