Troskovice combines local culture with attractions for a range of travel interests. The local museum, a cycling route through Troskovice, and the history of Trosky Castle each offer a distinct focus. Marked trails and connections by train and summer bus are further points to consider when planning.

Culture in Troskovice and the History of the Castle

The Muzeum panenek a medvídků pod Troskami is located in Troskovice. It displays historical and artistic dolls, teddy bears, and toys; the collection comprises around 3,000 exhibits. A visit to the museum therefore adds a distinctive cultural touch to the town.

The history of Trosky Castle spans a different period: Čeněk z Vartenberka founded it towards the end of the 14th century, around 1380 to 1390. During the Hussite Wars, the castle was besieged in 1424 and 1428, including by Žižka’s troops. Its founding and the sieges mark different chapters in its history and provide a historical context for visiting the castle.

Views and Marked Hiking Trails

Baba Tower is reached by climbing 138 steps. At the top, a viewing walkway offers sweeping views across the landscape. The number of steps can help you plan this part of your visit; check access conditions before travelling.

Marked hiking trails lead to Trosky Castle from Sobotka, Hrubá Skála, Valdštejn, Borecké skály, and Podtrosecké rybníky. This gives you several named starting points to choose from, rather than just one route. Check trail markings and conditions locally.

Getting to Trosky Castle

The nearest train stations to the castle are Borek pod Troskami and Ktová. Both are about 3.5 kilometres away and can be reached via marked trails. If travelling by train, you will need to plan for both the station and the onward walk; check connections and trail conditions before your trip.

A tourist summer bus connects Jičín with Hrubá Skála via Prachovské skály, Jinolice, and Troskovice. From the stop near the Svitačka campsite, marked green and blue hiking trails lead to the castle over 1.3 kilometres. As the bus runs seasonally, it is advisable to check whether it is operating and consult the timetable in advance.

Cycling Route and Nature at Apolena

The 39-kilometre Branžež–Kopicův statek cycling route passes through Troskovice and is designed primarily for mountain bikes and cross bikes. Its length and the types of bicycles mentioned offer concrete guidance for assessing the route. Check current trail conditions before planning to ride it.

Apolena lies 0.5 kilometres east of Troskovice. Sklepy, the largest rock fissure cave in the Bohemian Paradise and a traditional winter roost for bats, is located there. Apolena thus complements the cultural attractions around the castle and museum with a natural feature.

An Additional Activity for Children at the Castle

The “Trosky dětem a školákům” project launched in June 2024. As part of the project, children could purchase suitable worksheets for an additional charge with their admission ticket and complete entertaining and educational activities during their visit to the castle. Before your visit, check whether this additional activity is currently available.

When planning your trip, you can therefore prioritise different interests: the exhibitions at the museum in Troskovice, the history and views at the castle, marked hiking trails, or a cycling route through the town. The seasonal bus service, train stations, and respective trail distances are also practical points to consider when planning a visit to the castle.
