The sights in Kozlovice cover a range of interests: the history of the Wallachian voivodes, milling technology, historical collections, sacred architecture and the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can base your choice on the topic that matters most to you. The administrative and museum history offers different highlights from the landscape along the Ondřejnice or the Janáčkův chodníček educational trail.

History and Exhibitions

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Areál Fojtství was the seat of the Wallachian voivodes of the Hukvaldy estate. They were responsible for managing the sheep pastures in the remote mountains. The history of the complex therefore also reflects how grazing was organized under the Hukvaldy estate. Today, the reconstructed complex offers several independent permanent exhibitions and the option of a guided tour. If you are visiting for the exhibitions, check their availability before your trip.

Mills and the Landscape along the Ondřejnice

The Areál Na Mlýně focuses on milling technology and the history of mills. The complex includes a reconstructed mill with a 250-metre-long millrace and a fully functioning mill wheel. Šmiřákův mlýn is also now part of the Areál Na Mlýně. It was one of the four oldest mills in Kozlovice and was already listed in the first surviving manorial land register, dating from 1581. The mill wheel and millrace offer a tangible insight into the workings of the site; the historical record places Šmiřákův mlýn within the town’s long milling history.

The Areál Na Mlýně is on the right bank of the Ondřejnice, near the lower end of Kozlovice. There, the stream cuts into the Palkovické Hůrky hills, forming a natural gorge several kilometres long. This means the area can be understood not only through its milling history, but also through the relationship between the stream, the hilly landscape and the gorge. Opposite the Areál Na Mlýně, a Stations of the Cross with 14 stations runs along the slope of Skalka hill. The stations are painted based on original folk oil paintings from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Kitchen, Classroom and Church Architecture

The Obecná škola Museum displays a traditional kitchen with a masonry stove, bread oven, household vessels and historical baking equipment. The museum also includes an authentically furnished classroom. Visitors can sit on historical wooden benches and write on slate boards with a slate pencil. The two rooms offer different insights into everyday life: the kitchen equipment brings together tools and vessels for baking and cooking, while the classroom offers a practical writing exercise.

The Church of St Michael and St Barbara in Kozlovice is a national cultural monument. The elongated, single-nave building has a polygonal-ended presbytery and a prismatic tower. The Church of St Michael the Archangel was built between 1731 and 1742 beside an older church that was mostly made of wood. This older church was probably built around 1300. Alongside its exhibitions and mills, Kozlovice therefore also offers its own perspective on architectural history and sacred architecture.

Hiking and Local Beer Culture

One of the hiking routes that starts in Kozlovice is the Janáčkův chodníček educational trail. It is a practical option for travellers who would like to include hiking among their interests during their stay. The Valašský pivovar in the heart of Kozlovice offers a different local experience: the brewery invites visitors to taste and learn about craft-brewed beer. As the offer may change, check what is currently available for tasting before your trip.
