Tvrdkov: Nature Park, Trails and Baroque Church
Accommodation in Tvrdkov
Tvrdkov is located in the northwestern part of the Sovinecko Nature Park. The Tvrdkovský potok flows through the village. Two specific routes offer different experiences: a red-marked hiking trail leads from Tvrdkov north to Špičák and on to the ruins of Rabštejn Castle; a cycling route runs through the village in a northeasterly direction. The local cultural history includes the late Baroque Church of Saint Anthony of Padua and a sandstone statue of the Immaculata. The landscape, trail routes and architectural history thus offer different perspectives on Tvrdkov.
Rešovské vodopády: Valley and Gorge
The Rešovské vodopády National Natural Monument includes the area around the confluence of the Tvrdkovský potok and the Huntava. Near Rešovské vodopády lies a deeply incised, gorge-like valley of the Huntava. The valley reaches a depth of 70 to 120 metres; rock gorges, waterfalls and rapids are part of this landscape.
The rock gorge itself is about 200 metres long and 6 to 10 metres wide. The highest waterfall reaches 10 metres. These measurements describe different dimensions: the depth of the valley, the length and width of the rock gorge, and the height of the largest waterfall. This makes it possible to distinguish the landforms without equating the valley with the gorge.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
For a hike, the red trail marking and the named destinations provide concrete points of orientation: from Tvrdkov, the trail leads north to Špičák and on to the ruins of Rabštejn Castle. Check the trail marking on site before setting out.
The cycling route runs through Tvrdkov and leads via Horní Město and Stará Ves in a northeasterly direction to the excursion destination of Skřítek. The routes differ in activity, direction and destinations: the hiking trail leads north to Špičák and on to Rabštejn; the cycling route runs northeast via two named places to Skřítek. Also check the cycling route signage on site.
Church and Sculpture
The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua is protected as a cultural monument. It is a single-nave late Baroque rural church, built from 1768 to 1776. A sacristy was added in 1814. Its building history thus encompasses both the period when the church was built and a later structural addition.
Another dated cultural monument in Tvrdkov is the sandstone statue of the Immaculata, made in 1848. It stands on a stepped pedestal adorned with reliefs of saints. For the church, its type, style and construction period define its architectural features; for the statue, the focus is on the material, pedestal shape and reliefs. These different details offer concrete points of interest if you are interested in architectural history and sculpture.
