Mezihoří combines film history at Panský Pond with a chapel in the village and natural attractions in the surrounding area. When searching for a hotel in Mezihoří, your reason for travelling can be a useful starting point: would you like to visit the filming location, go hiking or climbing, or plan your stay around a local festival? The landscape and the activities described each offer a different focus.

Ponds and film history

Panský Pond lies on the edge of the village and covers just under six hectares. Its dam served as a filming location for the Czech fairy-tale comedy film “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella.” This includes the scene in which the stepmother and her stepdaughter tumble into the pond in a sleigh. If you know the film, this gives you a specific point of reference in the local landscape, rather than just a general link to the story of the fairy tale.

Mezihořský Pond is also a stop on the “Po stopách Popelky” (“In Cinderella’s Footsteps”) educational trail. From the tourist signpost in Mezihoří, you can reach it via the green-marked trail and then a field path; the entire route is about 350 metres long. Check trail conditions locally, as they may change. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the named pond with a short, specifically described approach, while the dam at Panský Pond marks the film connection.

Nature, hiking and climbing

Near Mezihoří is Tuhošť, a conical peak of volcanic origin. Also in the area, the Běleč Nature Reserve protects predominantly original mixed woodland. It provides a habitat for many animal species, including black storks and Eurasian sparrowhawks. For nature lovers, the area thus offers both a distinctive landform and a protected woodland.

A forest walk leads from Mezihoří to Běleč along the yellow-marked hiking trail. A hike there is traditionally held on New Year’s Day. When following the marked trail, use the local signs for guidance, as markings may change. The New Year’s date gives the hike a recurring seasonal connection; the route itself is described as a link between Mezihoří and Běleč.

Climbing at Žlutá ruka

The Žlutá ruka climbing area is 700 metres east of Mezihoří, at the foot of Tuhošť. The rock formation is about ten metres high and consists mostly of smooth, sloping slabs. The climbing area is described as having fixed protection, as well as top-rope and abseiling anchors. Before climbing, check the current condition of the rock and protection. The area is accessible by bus from the Mezihoří stop; check current services for your visit.

Chapel, tradition and local history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Klatovy stands in Mezihoří. Its portico has a triangular pediment supported by two simple columns. The chapel is sometimes mistakenly referred to as the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas. The local pilgrimage traditionally takes place on 28 September, the feast of Saint Wenceslas. If you plan to travel for it, check the arrangements for the relevant year.

The first written mention of Mezihoří dates back to 1548. The village is also connected with Alois Jirásek’s historical tale “Z Čech až na konec světa”: the country nobleman Václav Šašek of Mezihoří lived here in his fortress. This connection adds a literary and historical dimension to the visible architecture, without suggesting that the tale itself should be considered a local attraction.

This gives you a clear distinction for planning your trip: the pond and educational trail offer film connections and a short, described approach; Běleč and Tuhošť offer woodland, scenery and outdoor activity; the chapel, pilgrimage and local history provide cultural highlights. Tailor your hotel search to whichever of these interests is most important for your stay, and if you are visiting for a festival, take the specific arrangements for that year into account.
