Accommodation in Elverum
The Glomma flows through Elverum and the municipality, offering opportunities to relax and enjoy beautiful views. There are also museums, traces of history, and various outdoor activities. You can tailor your trip around culture, exercise, or time by the water.
Relax by the river and in the town centre
Christiansfjeld festning is an abandoned redoubt in Leiret, in the centre of Elverum. The area is of historical significance and bears traces of past military activity. Today, it serves as a local recreation area for walks, exercise, and relaxation. Remains of the walls and a disc golf park are also located here.
Elvarheimparken is also in the centre, below the town hall. The park has a playground, exercise equipment, and a bandstand for concerts and events. The Sagtjernet bathing area is north of the centre. Its facilities include a diving tower and a jetty, climbing frames, a pirate ship, a beach volleyball court, exercise equipment, a barbecue area, toilets, and benches.
The other bodies of water also offer opportunities to spend time outdoors: swimming and the use of non-motorised watercraft are permitted in Elverum's rivers and lakes, unless restrictions apply to drinking water. Those interested in fishing will find four geographical fishing areas in Elverum.
Museums, history, and culture
Norsk skogmuseum and Glomdalsmuseet are the two major museums recommended for visits to Elverum. Anno Norsk skogmuseum has a national remit covering hunting, trapping, fishing, forests, forestry, and the forest industry.
Elvarheimparken is not the only place where you can combine time outdoors with culture: Elvarheimparken is part of the town centre, while Elverumstunet is the heart of Glomdalsmuseet. Its museum park includes 93 buildings dating from 1612 to 1940. One combined ticket covers Glomdalsmuseet and Norsk skogmuseum. The walk between the museums through the open-air areas takes ten minutes.
At Glomdalsmuseet, Kafè Anno serves open-faced sandwiches, light meals, and cakes, as well as hot and cold drinks. The events calendar may also be useful when planning your trip: Festspillene i Elverum has been running since 1974 and takes place over ten days in August. If the festival is a focus of your trip, check your plans against the event dates.
Cycling and hiking options
Elverum offers several varied cycling routes, with maps available for the routes. The forests in Elverum are also suitable for cycling. National Cycle Route 9, also known as “Villmarksruten,” runs through Elverum and leads from Halden to Trondheim. Elverum has a network of more than 200 kilometres of hiking trails.
Other options offer different experiences: Stolpejakten runs post-orienteering activities at several locations in Elverum during the summer months. Ti pĂĄ topp is a hiking programme in which you use an app to reach a hiking destination. The two activities therefore differ in their format and the period mentioned.
Choosing the right hotel for your trip
