In Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka, you can plan your trip around specific interests: hiking routes with named waypoints, architectural history with precisely dated landmarks, and craft activities with seasonal dates offer different focuses. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, first consider which of these topics matter to your plans.

Cave: Watercourse and Stalagmite

Krásnohorská jaskyňa is listed as a unique natural formation on the World Heritage List. Its underground watercourse is 520 metres long, from its spring outlet to Marikino jazero. On a guided tour, the route leads to Kvapeľ rožňavských jaskyniarov, a 34-metre-high stalagmite. The two measurements describe different things: 520 metres is the length of the watercourse, while 34 metres is the height of the stalagmite.

The cave can be visited on guided tours with experienced guides and full caving equipment. The guided format is therefore part of planning a visit. Check visiting options before your trip so you can plan according to the current conditions.

Choose Hiking Routes by Their Endpoints

A yellow-marked hiking trail begins in Rožňava, passes through Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka and ends at the Škridlový košiar signpost on the Silická planina plateau, at an elevation of 540 metres. From there, a green-marked trail passes the Pod dievčenskou skalou signpost, at 660 metres, and continues to the Dievčenská skala viewpoint, which is also at 660 metres. This route sequence thus distinguishes between a signpost on the Silická planina plateau and a viewpoint as separate landmarks.

Another route description concerns the Horný-vrch plateau: the route there is moderately difficult and ends at the bus stop and car park in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka. This endpoint differs from the Dievčenská skala viewpoint. When choosing between the routes, the named destinations and elevations provide specific guidance for your plans.

Architectural History and Places of Remembrance

Andrássy Castle in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka was built by Count Juraj IV Andráši as a U-shaped Neoclassical building. A marble plaque on the façade of the former castle commemorates that Count Dionýz Andráši was born there on 18 November 1835. The building’s form and the plaque convey different aspects of local history: the castle’s design and the memory of a precisely dated event.

The Catholic Church of St. George also has a clearly defined architectural history. Its original Baroque building dates to 1754; the church was later remodelled twice in the Neo-Gothic style. A chapel was built and consecrated in 1748 in memory of the apparition of Mary to two local girls. Some farmhouses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have also been preserved. Together, these landmarks reflect different historical periods, without every building telling the same story.

Crafts, Market and Bread Baking

Remeselnícky Dom serves as a fully equipped creative workshop and exhibition space. Original handcrafted products are displayed and sold there. At Dom Remesiel, visitors can view a range of handcrafted products and learn about traditional crafts under the guidance of experienced master craftspeople.

During part of the summer, including July and August, bread-baking demonstrations are held once a week at Remeselnícky Dom in a historic outdoor oven. An antiques and crafts market is also held there every fourth Sunday from April to October. The schedules differ: the bread demonstrations take place weekly during the season, while the market follows a monthly cycle. Individual event dates may vary, so check the specific dates before your trip.

Information Along the Educational Trail

The Jaskyne Slovenského krasu educational trail has five information panels, as well as an introductory panel at Krásna Hôrka Castle. The five panels and the additional introductory panel provide a clear indication of how many information elements the trail includes. The panel at the castle is specifically designated as an introductory panel.
