If you are looking for a hotel in Nerín, the area’s hiking destinations and cultural themes can help guide your trip planning. Routes range from a circular trail that starts and ends in Nerín to a hike to the summit of Mondoto. Churches and the Carnival figure Carnuz offer further ways to explore the destination.

Hiking around Nerín

The GR 15 and GR 15.1 circular route begins and ends in Nerín and reaches the Portiello Pass, which marks the boundary of Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. The route description highlights the excellent views from the section at the pass. This gives the route a clear geographical reference point: the pass lies on the boundary of the national park.

Another option is the Nerín–Mondoto route. It is described as a 7.4-kilometre out-and-back hike leading to the summit of Mondoto, at an altitude of 1,957 metres. The out-and-back hike includes 680 metres of ascent and takes 3 hours and 45 minutes. Unlike the circular route, which starts and ends in Nerín, this hike specifically leads to a summit.

Stage 06 of the GR-15 also has a connection to the national park: at the watershed between the Barranco Airés and the Bellós River, it reaches the park’s beginning. A significant part of the national park lies within the municipality of Fanlo, particularly in the Añisclo Canyon.

Nerín is also a starting point for excursions to the cliffs of the Añisclo Canyon and the Grutas de Mondoto. Pico Mondoto lies in the upper part of the Añisclo Canyon and is a natural viewpoint offering views across the surrounding region. These excursions therefore take in the canyon cliffs, the caves, and the summit area of Mondoto.

Churches and architecture

The Ermita de Santa María is a small ruin. Its semicircular apse with a quarter-sphere vault has survived.

The Iglesia de San Andrés is a 12th-century Romanesque church. It also has a semicircular apse, along with a rectangular nave. The southern entrance is beneath a vaulted porch, and a square tower stands beside it.

Carnuz at Carnival

Local traditions offer another point of interest: the figure of Carnuz takes centre stage at Nerín’s Carnival. Together with the churches, this custom extends the cultural perspective beyond architecture. Trip planning can therefore draw on several different aspects of Nerín: hikes with specific route details, destinations in the Añisclo Canyon, and cultural themes rooted in the village itself.
