Hotels in Berlin: new InterCity near the main railway station

One of the oldest German hotel chains - Steigenberger - voiced its plans to build a new InterCity hotel. InterCity, a brand of the network, which represents the middle class price segment, will present its new hotel in Berlin near the main railway station of the German capital.

The hotel will become a classic building in the InterCity style - strict straight lines and a large number of rooms. It is expected that the new InterCity Berlin will become the largest hotel of the chain. It will be designed for 412 rooms. The building, which will house the Steigenberger hotel, were taken in long-term lease for 20 years.

Steigenberger plans to make InterCity near the main railway station in Berlin the flagship of the brand. Construction works will begin in the third quarter of 2011. Steigenberger plans to complete construction by 2013. The total amount of investments is 50 million euros.

The style of the facade was already chosen in 2006. Then at the design competition won the German architectural firm Auer + Weber.

It is worth noting that the new hotel continues company's policy on development of InterCity near major transportation hubs of Berlin. Not so long ago Steigenberger opened in Berlin two hotels under the InterCity brand. One is located near the east railway station, the second - near the Berlin Brandenburg international airport.

It is worth noting that in the neighborhood with the future InterCity hotel is located another hotel of the famous chain. In the opposite side of the station last year was opened the first Sheraton hotel in Berlin. Currently in the region of Berlin and Potsdam there are 6 InterCity hotels. In total in Germany and Austria are located 32 hotels of the network.
