Riu Don Miguel de Grande Canarie 3* hotel on the Canary Islands will be opened on July 27, 2012 after a large-scale renovation. The reconstruction allowed changing not only the interiors, but also the target audience. Renovated hotel has decided to position itself as a hotel, which is available only for the adults.
Riu Don Miguel de Grande Canarie is controlled by the well-known Spanish hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts, which currently operates about 100 hotels worldwide.
Renovated hotel is located at one of the most popular resorts of Gran Canaria - Playa del Ingles, which is part of the Maspalomas municipality. The hotel is designed for 251 rooms. During the reconstruction all hotel rooms got updated colors with dominating purple and white. Gardens and swimming pool in the hotel were also updated. The hotel offers its guests shuttle service directly to the beach, which is located one and a half kilometer from the hotel.
Riu Don Miguel de Grande Canarie hotel will gradually become adult only. During the 2012 summer season it will work in the usual format. But in winter the hotel management is planning to introduce the new service. From the winter season Riu Don Miguel de Grande Canarie on the Canary Islands will be positioned as "adults only".
Playa del Inglez has been known for 25 years as a gay resort. Therefore, "adults only" mean particularly this audience.
RIU Hotels & Resorts is a hotel chain, which main interest is the Iberian Peninsula. Most company's hotels are located in Spain. The company tries to increase its presence outside the EU. One of the key markets for RIU is Mexico. In addition, in June 2012 the company announced its plans to open the first hotel in New York. It will be five-star Riu Plaza New York Times Square a few steps away from the Times Square. Grand opening of the hotel is scheduled for mid 2015.
