Kokkedal can be explored through a variety of places and activities: green landscapes, cycling and walking routes, and art in public spaces give your stay different points of focus. If you’re looking for a hotel in Kokkedal, these themes can help you sort out your interests for the trip. Fredtoften and the paths along the Usserød Å are a good starting point for exploring the area.

Green landscapes and routes

Fredtoften is a former landfill site that has now been developed as a green area. The landscape is shaped by hills, woodland and waterways, as well as a large amphitheatre. Different landscape features come together here. Fredtoften also has an 18-hole disc golf course built to international standards. If you’d like to play there, it’s best to check the course’s availability in advance.

Dronningerunden is a longer cycling route through Fredensborg Municipality. The signposted route is 40 kilometres long and passes through Kokkedal, Nivå, Humlebæk and Fredensborg. It was established in 2012 to mark the 40th anniversary of Queen Margrethe’s accession to the throne. If you plan to ride the route, check the information about signage and route conditions beforehand, as these may change.

The Usserød Å also shapes the experience of nature in Kokkedal: a cultural and historical natural area lies along the river, where visitors can observe a rich variety of birdlife. The Usserød Å Trail is a separate walking and cycling route of about 9 kilometres along the Usserød Å. It runs from Sjælsø to the river’s confluence with the Nivå. Observing nature and getting active on a route are two different ways to explore the river and its surroundings.

Another offering in Kokkedal is Find-vej-i, a photo safari. Instead of following fixed posts, you find locations using recognisable images. If you’d like to try this way of finding your bearings, check in advance whether it’s available during your visit.

Art and places in public spaces

SkĂĄlen og Perlen, a site-specific installation by Eva Koch, is located at HolmegĂĄrds Plads. It was created as part of a larger climate adaptation project. Its central element is a square, approximately 50 Ă— 35 metres in size, surfaced with white and grey marble gravel. In the middle, the surface forms a bowl shape. Its dimensions, material and design give the work a clearly recognisable spatial form.

Perlen includes a projector that casts images of poppies onto the square in the evening and at night. The poppy field was filmed from above and from within; time-lapse footage of poppies opening is also included. The projection may depend on local conditions. The installation thus combines a designed surface with images that unfold over time.

Egedal Byens Hus tells a different story: it is housed in the former yellow director’s residence, built in 1803, which originally belonged to the Brønsholmsdalske factories. Right next to the house is a park with an outdoor stage and amphitheatre-style steps, tables and benches, a large lawn and an area by the lake. Families and friends use the park for play and picnics. The building’s history and the park’s uses offer different points of interest for a visit.

Bølgepladsen, a modern public space created through climate adaptation, is located near Kokkedal Skole. It offers space for play and other activities. Together with the places around Holmegårds Plads and Egedal Byens Hus, Bølgepladsen broadens the picture of Kokkedal’s designed public spaces.

Plan your stay around your interests

The distances offer a practical comparison when choosing a route: Dronningerunden is 40 kilometres long, while the Usserød Å Trail is about 9 kilometres. This lets you match the routes available during your stay to your plans. When looking for a hotel in Kokkedal, you can also be clear about what you’d like to focus on: a cycling route, nature observation or art in public spaces. The places and activities described here offer different possibilities, without requiring you to limit your stay to just one theme.
