For a stay in Bítouchov, the focus is on marked hiking trails, views of the rock formations, and a historic local landmark. Routes pass through the village and connect it with Semily, Spálov, or Morava. When planning your stay, considering each trail’s length, markings, route, and viewpoints can help you tell them apart.

Marked hiking trails and their features

The red-marked Riegrova Trail connects Semily, the Bítouchov district, and Spálov and is 5.5 km long in total. Its forest section begins beyond Bítouchov. There, 77-meter-long metal galleries set into the rock run above the Jizera. The route thus brings together the river and a striking structure built into the rock.

The Riegrova Trail also passes through the Galerie Natural Monument and the Údolí Jizery Nature Reserve, as well as through Bítouchov. There are several rock viewpoints along the trail, with views of the Jizera Valley and the surrounding natural landscape. In addition to its total length, the protected areas and viewpoints are specific features to consider when choosing this trail.

The yellow-marked Kamenického Trail follows a different route: it is 3 km long and offers six rock viewpoints. At the signpost at Morava, the yellow markings pass Medenec on the way to Bítouchov; from there, the red-marked route continues to Semily. The trail names can therefore be distinguished by their markings and routes. The stated distances also provide a point of comparison: the 3 km Kamenického Trail versus the Riegrova Trail’s total of 5.5 km, which also features metal galleries above the Jizera.

Viewpoints and connections

Masarykova vyhlídka is 497 m above sea level and is the highest point in Bítouchov. It is a destination for walks and excursions; from there, you can see Kozákov. This named viewpoint at the village’s highest point complements the rock views along the Riegrova Trail.

Another hiking route between Semily and Morava passes through Bítouchov. It is 10 km long and described as accessible to people with disabilities. Together with the stated lengths of 3 km for the Kamenického Trail and 5.5 km for the Riegrova Trail, this lets you compare the lengths of the three routes. The accessibility description applies to the 10 km route.

In Semily, the Bítouchovská lávka footbridge crosses the Jizera and lies on the Greenway Jizera, on the connection from the town center to the Riegrova Trail. If you include this connection in your tour, check the current route before setting out.

A historic detail in Bítouchov

The Bítouchovská zvonička bell tower stands in Bítouchov on a hillside above the road. It dates from 1812 and has a shingle-covered roof; it was reconstructed in 1996. Both its date of origin and its later reconstruction are part of its history. For visitors who want to notice a local architectural feature as well as the hiking trails, the zvonička is a specific point of interest.
