Lejšovka combines village history with nature and several opportunities to stay active. The village centre is home to protected landmarks, while the remains of a historic water castle lie at the southern edge of the cadastral area. Other highlights include the Violky wet meadow, an annual small-sided football tournament and a network of cycling routes.

Village History and Character

In the centre of Lejšovka is a protected ensemble consisting of a stone bell and a cast-iron cross on a stone pedestal. A wooden bell tower stands in the village square, with a sandstone cross dating from 1882 beside it. The former school and the cemetery complex are considered valuable for their local history or architecture.

The remains of a historic water castle, possibly dating from the second half of the 13th century, lie in Kalthouz Forest, at the southern edge of Lejšovka’s cadastral area. Different periods are therefore represented side by side: the sandstone cross is dated to 1882, while the water castle’s origins can only tentatively be placed in an earlier period.

A recurring event in village life is the small-sided football tournament “O posvícenský tuplák.” It takes place every year on the last Saturday in August. If you would like to plan your stay around the tournament, check the specific event dates for the year in question.

Nature at the Violky Wet Meadow

The Kaltouz Biocentre and the Violky wet meadow are associated with Lejšovka, Smržov and Libřice. One distinctive feature of the wet meadow is Viola elatior, an endangered violet species. In Eastern Bohemia, it grows at only one other location besides this one. For travellers interested in plants and nature conservation, this species offers a specific reason to learn about the area’s natural environment.

Cycling, Sports and Getting There

The area around Lejšovka is criss-crossed by a network of cycling routes. Cycle Route 4166 passes through Lejšovka; check the current signage before setting out. This lets you distinguish between the general cycling network and a specifically named route when planning, without treating them as one and the same.

The local fishing association regularly holds angling competitions at Náveský Pond. Next to the pond is a sports complex with sand courts for tennis, volleyball and nohejbal, as well as a small-sided football pitch. The former classroom is used for cultural activities and also hosts aerobics and table tennis. The activities therefore range from competitions at the pond and ball sports to exercise and culture in a former classroom.

It is also useful to know that Lejšovka lies away from the main transport corridors and has bus connections to Hradec Králové and Jaroměř. Check the timetable for your travel date if you plan to use these connections. Together with the cycling routes and local activities, this gives you a choice of different themes to guide your travel planning.
