Libníkovice: Lookout Tower, Trails and Local History

Historic Route and Cycling Routes

The historic route through Libníkovice is about six kilometres long and passes through the village and its districts. It is suitable for walkers, cyclists, families with children and people with pushchairs. Its approximate length can help you gauge the scale of the route as you plan.

If you prefer to plan around cycling route directions, the cycling route junction by the Libníkovice lookout tower station has two KČT cycling routes. Route 4257 heads towards Piletice, Slatina, Librantice and Jílovice. Route 4166 heads from there towards Výrava, Smržov and Smiřice. The directions differ; check the signs on site before setting off.

Rozhledna Libníkovice Lookout Tower

The Rozhledna Libníkovice lookout tower is 15 metres high and opened on 12 July 1930. It replaced a historic lime tree at the same site, which had been destroyed by lightning. The tower is therefore associated both with a specific opening date and with the story of the tree that once stood in the same place.

The lookout tower is freely accessible. Before your visit, check whether the access conditions are still the same.

Buildings and Local History

The wooden column-style bell tower in Libníkovice was built in 1874; its predecessor dated from 1812. In the 20th century, the bell tower was replaced by a metal structure. Check the bell tower’s current condition when you arrive.

On the western side of Libníkovice, a stone cross replaced a wooden cross that had previously stood there in 1921. Together with the history of the bell tower, the cross offers another specific historical point of interest in the village.

Events and Seasonal Activities

Velikonoční tvoření and Stezka odvahy appeal to different interests: the former focuses on Easter crafts, while Stezka odvahy is part of Tradiční opékání. At Velikonoční tvoření 2024, people braided whips for Pomlázka, decorated Easter eggs using various techniques and made Easter decorations from birch branches.

Stezka odvahy takes place every year as part of Tradiční opékání. For the 2026 event, children and adults were scheduled to meet at 19:30 at Klub Libníkovice; participants were allowed to bring a companion.

For the event on the historic route on 12 September 2026, starts at Klub Libníkovice were scheduled between 13:00 and 17:00. Refreshments were to be available there during the event from 13:00 to 21:00. If travelling at a later date, check the dates and times for the relevant event rather than relying on the 2026 details.
