Rampuse combines a history documented from an early date with two chapels, local figures and a red-marked hiking trail. Rampuse was first mentioned in 1544. During your stay, you can explore the village from several specific perspectives: religious architectural history, literary and folkloric connections, and a hiking route through Rampuse. The village is also set in a valley on a slope in the Podorlická Uplands, through which a stream flows. These themes can help guide you when looking for a hotel in Rampuse for a culture- or hiking-focused stay.

Chapels and Historical Timeline

The smaller Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows dates from 1745 and stands near the Rampuse bus stop. It also serves as a local landmark. The Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was consecrated in 1868 and stands near house No. 16. A memorial to the fallen of the First World War, erected in 1921, is also nearby. The chapels differ in both style and date, while the memorial adds a remembrance of the fallen to the picture of Rampuse’s local history.

The sequence of dates helps put things in context: Rampuse’s first mention in 1544 was followed by the smaller chapel in 1745, the consecration of the Neo-Gothic chapel in 1868, and the memorial in 1921. This creates a historical arc from the village’s first recorded mention through its two chapels to the commemoration of the fallen.

Figures, Folklore and Literature

Above the pond stands a statue of Rampepurda, created by academic sculptor Michal Moravec from Hořice. A wooden statue of Rampušák is another local landmark. Rampušák is depicted as the patron and protector of the Eagle Mountains. Rampuse’s literary connection is different: Kristýna, known as Rampepurda, was born and lived here; she is associated with the character in Karel Poláček’s novel “Bylo nás pět” (“There Were Five of Us”). The figures represent different cultural connections: Rampepurda is linked to Kristýna and the novel, while Rampušák is regarded in regional folklore as the protector of the Eagle Mountains.
