Discover Sediviny
Accommodation in Sediviny
Šediviny combines a distinctly scattered settlement pattern with traces of architecture and nature, marked hiking trails, and a small themed attraction. The cottages remain scattered across the slopes; St. Joseph’s Church, former farmsteads, and a named hiking loop each offer a different perspective on the village. If you’re looking for hotels in Sediviny, this distinction can help you plan your trip around your interests: village history, architecture, landscape, or hiking.
Village Character and Early History
Šediviny has the scattered settlement pattern typical of the Orlické Mountains. This can still be seen today in the cottages dotted across the slopes. The earliest recorded mentions of Šediviny date back to the 16th century. The current distribution of buildings and the early written records offer two different perspectives: the layout of the village and its documented history.
St. Joseph’s Church: Building History and Design
St. Joseph’s Church is a striking architectural feature: built in 1907 as a direct extension of an earlier chapel, it is an Art Nouveau building. Its exterior combines facing brick with local gabbro. The building therefore offers a way to explore both its history and its distinctive combination of materials. A prominent feature of the Šediviny landscape, the church also lies on cycle route 4243.
Traces of Former Farmsteads and a Distinctive Plant
Some former farms can still be identified by groups of old lime trees and remnants of walls. Čechřice, a plant originally from the Alps with an anise scent, continues to grow in some meadows near former houses. The lime trees and wall remnants point to former farmsteads; Čechřice adds further botanical interest with its Alpine origins and anise scent.
Hiking Trails and Route Distances
Red, yellow, and blue hiking trail markings meet in Šediviny. The Šedivinská osmička is a hiking loop of about 12 kilometres through Šediviny. The route description places Špičák at approximately kilometre 8.4. The two figures refer to different distances: about 12 kilometres for the entire loop and around 8.4 kilometres to the point mentioned. In the wider area around Šediviny stands the distinctive 833-metre-high Špičák, which shapes the northwestern foothills of the Orlické Mountains.
The Šedivinská 11°
Editions of the Šedivinská 11° were held in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. In the 2022 edition, the roller-ski race route followed a 1,200-metre local road, climbed 130 metres, and finished at St. Joseph’s Church.
Český Hobitín
Český Hobitín is a small hobbit village in the mountain settlement of Šediviny, inspired by Tolkien’s world. Svatoslav Hofman designed and built it by hand on his family’s property. A regional visitor guide reported in 2024 that unpaved paths make access more difficult for visitors with strollers or wheelchairs. Check the path conditions before your visit.
