Sedlonov offers a range of reasons to visit: protected landscapes, marked hiking trails, and historic buildings and memorials. When choosing a destination, you can consider whether nature watching, hiking, or cultural history is your priority. Visiting arrangements also vary: while a nature reserve is freely accessible, with some exceptions, visits to the Alpine garden are possible by arrangement.

Natural Areas and Protected Sites

Part of the municipality of Sedlonov lies within the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area. The Sedloňovský vrch Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Sedloňov. Visitors should note that the area is freely accessible except for fenced-off areas. Check local restrictions before your visit.

In spring, the spring snowflake grows on Sedloňovský vrch. The European globeflower grows in the protected natural locality of Ošerov. Other places offer a glimpse of different landscape types: Propadliště encompasses the floodplain of the Zlatý potok watercourse; Polomské louky is a flower-rich, semi-natural meadow in the valley of the Polomský potok. These two localities therefore represent different natural environments, from floodplain to meadow landscape.

One natural landmark in the centre of the village is the Sedloňov lime tree. The protected tree is estimated to be around 500 years old. So, alongside the designated protected areas, there is also a specific natural feature in the village centre.

Hiking and Marked Trails

Dozens of kilometres of marked hiking trails run through the area around Sedlonov; some are also suitable for cycling. Marked hiking trails lead to Sedloňovský Černý kříž, a large wooden cross on the ridge. The cross is a clearly identified destination for hikers. By contrast, only some of the trails are suitable for cycling; this does not apply to the entire trail network.

Architectural History and Memorial Sites

The Baroque Church of All Saints was completed in 1711 on the site of a wooden church dating from 1578. The church and the rectory together form a protected cultural monument complex. The two dates refer to different construction phases: 1578 to the wooden church and 1711 to the completion of the Baroque church.

Another chapter in the village’s history is the first ski race in the Orlické Mountains, held in Sedlonov in February 1897. A monument on Vrchmezí commemorates earlier visits by Emperor Joseph II, John Quincy Adams, and Fryderyk Chopin. While the church and the complex relate to architectural history, the monument commemorates these historic visitors.

The Skutina artillery fortress in the hamlet of Polom houses an exhibition on military fortifications from the interwar period. Visitors can descend up to 36 metres into the structure. Plan your visit according to the current opening arrangements.

In the lower part of Sedlonov, in the area known as V depu, lies the extensive Alpine garden, which is associated with the Grulich family. Visits are possible by arrangement. The natural and historical themes can be distinguished by their timing: the spring snowflake is a seasonal sign of spring, while February 1897 dates the historic ski race.
