Chuchelna combines hiking trails, scenic views and a clearly identified cultural monument. The municipality extends from the summit of Kozákov to the left bank of the Jizera. When choosing a hotel in Chuchelna, you can consider whether you want your stay to focus on trails and high points, the river landscape or cultural heritage. The local features offer different points of reference for your decision.

Hiking and Geology at Kozákov

Volcanic activity around 260 million years ago made Kozákov known as a site for finding agates, jaspers and amethysts. Chuchelna is an important part of the Český ráj Geopark, under UNESCO patronage. Geology and landscape are therefore among the municipality’s defining features.

Ten marked hiking trails lead to Kozákov, including the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje. The Kozákov educational trail leads to Drábovna through the Měsíční údolí and ends at the Radostná spring. You can therefore choose between several marked trails to Kozákov and an educational trail with a named route. The educational trail runs through the valley to a specific spring.

The summit of Kozákov is 744 m above sea level. It has three paragliding launch sites, on the west, south and north sides. When there is sufficient snow, a 450 m-long ski lift operates on the north slope. The activities mentioned also differ in their requirements: the ski lift is expressly dependent on sufficient snow.

Viewpoints on the Jizera and at the Summit

Krkavčí skála is a viewpoint on the left bank of the Jizera, about 100 m above the river. From there, you can see into the Jizera Canyon and across to Medenec. The rock formation is also one of seven geological stations in the Kozákov microregion. Here, a specific landscape view and a geological point of interest come together at a named location.

There is also an observation tower on Kozákov. Its public viewing platform is 24 m high, can be reached by 124 steps and offers panoramic views in all directions. The observation tower has been open to the public since 22 April 1995. By contrast, Krkavčí skála is known for its view into the canyon and across to Medenec, while the summit platform offers panoramic views in all directions.

Cultural Monument and Local History

The Calvary group of Chuchelna is a Baroque sandstone work dating from 1734 and is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It depicts Christ on the cross, with the Sorrowful Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist at either side. These precise details give the cultural monument a different focus from the geological stations and viewpoints: here, the emphasis is on a dated work, its material and the figures depicted.
