Accommodation in Kozly U České Lípy
Kozly U České Lípy is a destination where the landscape, marked trails, and individual cultural and historical landmarks can be explored as distinct highlights. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Kozly, this breakdown can help you decide whether to plan your visit around cycling and hiking trails, the volcanic landscape, or local history.
Landscape and Kozel
Kozel is a defining feature of the landscape around Kozly; the hill reaches 598 m. Kozly is also known for volcanic rock formations, including lava fields. Part of the municipality of Kozly lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. This protected area does not cover the entire municipality. If you are planning routes in detail, check the protected area's boundaries.
Chapel, reconciliation cross, and other landmarks
The Chapel of Saint Procopius was built in 1820 by the farmer Stefan Wenzel. Mineralogist Franz Hocke, who was born in Kozly, donated an altarpiece of Saint Procopius to the chapel. The construction history and the story of the donation thus come together at a named place of worship.
Above Kozly stands a medieval stone reconciliation cross, 110 cm high. It is one of about ten surviving stone reconciliation crosses in the Česká Lípa District and is located beside a yellow-marked hiking trail. Beside house No. 109 stands a large-leaved linden tree estimated to be 675 years old; please treat the tree respectfully. A 19th-century house is also of tourist interest for its preserved architecture.
Hiking trails and cycling connections
A green-marked hiking trail maintained by the Czech Tourist Club passes through Kozly. A yellow-marked trail runs from there toward Bořetín. Check the trail markings before your hike, as they may change.
A regional route description updated in February 2024 shows cycle route No. 211 passing through Kozly, between Dubá and Kamenický Šenov, and continuing to the border crossing near Rožany on the German border. The Kozly war memorial is located beside this cycle route. Local cycle route No. 3086 leads from Kozly to Holany. Via Kvítkov, it offers an alternative connection to route 211; local roads then continue to Karba and Zahrádky. The cycling options described therefore differ mainly in the connections they list: route 211 runs between Dubá and Kamenický Šenov and continues toward the border, while route 3086 connects Holany and, via Kvítkov, Karba and Zahrádky. Check the route numbers before setting out, as cycle route designations may change.
You can therefore choose between different local highlights for your trip: Kozel and the volcanic formations, the historical landmarks, and the marked hiking and cycling trails.
