Kravaře V Čechách: Liščí stezka and local history
Accommodation in Kravaře V Čechách
Kravaře V Čechách offers visitors a marked themed trail and a historic village setting. The Liščí stezka runs through the area around Kravaře in Bohemia and Rané. Nearby, the triangular market square, historic buildings and exhibitions invite you to explore the history and cultural heritage of the area.
The Liščí stezka and its stops
The Liščí stezka is 5.4 kilometres long and marked along its entire length. It is divided into several sections suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and people with pushchairs. When planning, you can take into account the route’s length and the types of use it is intended for.
There are eight stops along the route. These include animal figures, a bird-feeding corridor featuring a heron, and a stop by the water sprite. The motifs also make the trail interesting for visitors who enjoy exploring individual themed points alongside getting some exercise. The route runs partly through the rural conservation area of Rané and touches on the rural conservation area of Janovice.
Historic village setting and architectural history
Kravaře has been protected as a rural conservation area since 1995. Its village setting includes a notably triangular market square. The preserved, interconnected rear stone walls of barns and farm buildings form a rare surviving type of urban fortification. This distinctive feature sets Kravaře’s architectural heritage apart from a visit focused solely on individual buildings.
The village has a long history: written records of Kravaře date from 1175 to 1178. Charters from the 13th century describe Kravaře as a market centre and market town with the right to hold a market. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is originally Gothic and is first documented in 1384. Its present-day appearance was shaped by Baroque alterations made between 1744 and 1749. There is also a stone outdoor pulpit at the northern corner of the Cemetery Chapel of Our Lady of Help.
Exhibitions on architecture and everyday life
The Vísecká rychta houses an exhibition on folk architecture and living in North Bohemia. On the ground floor, you can see the rural life and economy of the early 19th century, including the bailiff’s room, a retirement room and a black kitchen with an oven.
The upper floor focuses on traditional livelihoods in the Česká Lípa area: hop growing, grain farming, livestock breeding, spinning, weaving and carpentry. The exhibition complements the buildings with insights into living and working conditions. You can visit the Vísecká rychta with a guided tour or independently without a guide.
Seasonal leisure facility
Koupaliště Kravaře adds a seasonal leisure facility to the cultural and walking attractions. Facilities include changing rooms, toilets and showers, as well as courts for volleyball and nohejbal. There are also climbing equipment for children, table tennis, basketball hoops, a trampoline, darts, billiards and refreshments. As it operates seasonally, check the latest opening information before your visit.
For planning your trip, the route and village setting offer different highlights: the Liščí stezka leads through the surrounding area and touches on conservation areas, while the market square, stone walls and church tell the story of Kravaře’s architecture and local history. This can help you decide whether to spend more time on the trail, exploring the historic village setting or visiting the exhibitions.
