Kunratice U Cvikova: Glass Art and Local History
Accommodation in Kunratice U Cvikova
Kunratice U Cvikova brings together glass exhibitions, local history and landscapes as different points of interest for a stay. Visiting arrangements for the glass exhibitions vary considerably.
Glass and Planning Your Visit
The Křišťálový chrám (Crystal Temple) is a permanent exhibition by Jiří Pačinek and his sons in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, built in 1833. Some works were created specifically for this particular church interior. The architecture is therefore directly relevant to part of the exhibition. A full tour of Pačinek Glass also includes the Jiří Pačinek Gallery, with expert commentary.
Skleněná zahrada (Glass Garden) is open to the public year-round without prior reservation. The upper area of Skleněná zahrada, the Křišťálový chrám and the glassworks are wheelchair accessible. At the same time, the Křišťálový chrám can only be visited as part of a guided tour. Visitors therefore have a choice between a public visit without prior reservation and a guided visit to the church. As visiting arrangements may change, check the latest information about tours and accessibility in advance.
Valley, Protected Area and Trails
Kunratice U Cvikova lies in the valley of the Svitávka River, at the southern foot of the Lusatian Mountains. To the north of the village, the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area extends across a landscape with protected animal and plant species. The valley and southern foothills define the village’s location; the protected landscape area is a separate point of interest to the north.
Cycle Route 3055 passes through Kunratice U Cvikova. It is advisable to check the local signage and route. The 15 m-high rock face Skála smrti, also known as Rytířský skok, can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail. The two details should be distinguished: the cycle route passes through the village, while the green-marked hiking trail leads to the rock face. Trail markings and conditions may change; check the current signage before setting out.
Local History and Cultural Traces
A medieval fortress once stood on Zámecký vrch above Kunratice U Cvikova. Today, a deep, wide ditch on its southern and eastern sides marks the site.
The stone Kamenný most bridge was restored in 1993 along with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The restoration year links the two structures, while the ditch on Zámecký vrch recalls the former site of the fortress.
Divadelní studio Josefa II. (Josef II Theatre Studio) aims to create unconventional performances that place particular emphasis on connecting with the audience. The studio also aims to build on the amateur theatre tradition that was active in Kunratice during the interwar period. Here, you will encounter both tangible historical traces and a cultural initiative that takes up an older local theatre tradition.
