In Loučky, natural surroundings, trails and local history come together as different facets of the destination. If you are planning a stay, you can focus on specific attractions: the Podloučky Nature Monument, a cycling route and a hiking trail through the town, and landmarks of local architectural and community history.

Natural surroundings and geological traces

Loučky is located in the Český ráj Geopark. The Podloučky Nature Monument also includes part of the cadastral area of Loučky. It protects communities of xerothermic grassland and well-preserved, species-rich beech forests that are home to specially protected species. Xerothermic grasslands are grassy areas shaped by warmth and dry conditions; the protected area therefore encompasses different habitat types. Specially protected plants found there include the red helleborine, white helleborine, spring cinquefoil, Turk’s cap lily and cross gentian.

At the southern edge of Loučky is a fossil site described as the most important site for Middle Turonian fossils in Bohemia. A wild pear tree also grows along the path to Fialník; it was designated a memorial tree in 2023. The town’s specific natural features thus include both the geological significance of the site on its outskirts and an individual tree honoured as a memorial tree.

Distinguishing the cycling route from the hiking trail

The green cycle route No. 4099 from Malá Skála to Chutnovka runs through Loučky. The blue hiking trail from Malá Skála to Rotštejn also passes through the town. Malá Skála is named as the starting point for both; Chutnovka and Rotštejn distinguish their respective destinations. When planning, you can first sort the two by mode of travel: cycling route or hiking trail. Their different destinations also help you tell the routes apart.

Church and local history

The Church of St Anthony of Padua is an example of a simple rural Baroque church. The noble Des Fours family had it built between 1787 and 1790. Since 19 January 2009, the church has been protected as a cultural monument. There is also a valuable 19th-century crucifix in the cemetery near the church entrance. The construction period, architectural style and protected status each offer a distinct historical point of reference.

When it comes to the school buildings, it is worth distinguishing the former school from the current one. The former school building now serves as the “Výstavní zastavení” exhibition space and as the municipal office. In the small museum, you can view the Loučky nativity scene and learn about the history of Loučky and the life of the teacher and prominent local son František Hořák. About 3 m² of the exhibition can be seen at “Výstavní zastavení.” If you are planning a visit specifically, check the latest information about access beforehand. The current school building was constructed between 1882 and 1883; its appearance has remained essentially unchanged to this day.

A plaque on the façade of the Sokol hall also commemorates František Hořák. The history of TJ Sokol Loučky can be traced through two precise dates: the association was founded on 19 November 1903, and its statutes were approved on 26 February 1904. Together with the church and school buildings, these dates complement the natural and trail-related attractions with an insight into local history.
