Accommodation in Mírová pod Kozákovem
For a stay in Mírová pod Kozákovem, you can plan a variety of landscape experiences: the Rotštejn castle ruin, sandstone formations, an accessible cave and viewpoints. Visitor access conditions also vary. If you are looking for a hotel, you can plan your excursions according to whether you want to include a hiking route, rock formations, scenic views or access that is limited to certain seasons.
Rotštejn: castle ruin and hiking access
The Rotštejn castle complex is a ruin partly built of masonry and partly carved into a block of four sandstone rocks. It was gradually opened to the public from 1998; the first full tourist season began in 2004. These dates provide a timeline for the development of visitor access.
Parking is available in Loktuše, in the municipality of Mírová pod Kozákovem. From there, the castle ruin can be reached via a yellow-marked hiking route of about 1.5 kilometres. The distance is approximate, and route conditions may change. Check current route information before your visit.
Sandstone formations and cave
The sandstone rocks near Mírová pod Kozákovem are part of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The Klokočské skály Nature Reserve is a rock wall up to 60 metres thick, formed from Palaeozoic sandstone and containing numerous cave recesses. Weathering of less resistant rock sections and other geomorphological processes created caves, rock arches, tunnels, mushroom-shaped rocks and rock towers there.
Postojna–Amerika Cave is the only accessible cave in Klokočské skály. It is closed in winter during the bats’ breeding season; check seasonal access information before visiting. The Klokočské průchody are also located in the Klokočské skály area: 70-metre-long rock steps that have been part of a trade route since the Middle Ages. Klokočí is an access point to the area.
Viewpoints with different perspectives
Zdenčina skála is a ten-metre-high viewpoint on the edge of the rocky area. Steps carved into the rock lead to the top, where you can look out over the Jizera Valley. The Dubecko observation tower offers a different perspective: its covered viewing platform is 33 metres high and provides a wide view across the Český ráj landscape.
The Dubecko tower is accessible year-round in favourable weather. You can borrow the entrance key for a deposit from Mr Lejsek at house no. 6 in Dubecko, about 150 metres from the tower. If you plan to visit this viewpoint, take both the weather condition and the walk to collect the key into account. This lets you plan your visit using specific access information, rather than simply comparing the tower’s height with the view from Zdenčina skála.
More activities in the area
Mírová pod Kozákovem has a small ski slope. There are also water basins suitable for swimming. For these activities, check the local situation before your visit: swimming suitability should be confirmed locally, and facilities can change over time. These activities therefore differ from the rocky destinations, where hiking distance, season or weather may affect your plans.
