Okna combines a strong cultural and historical connection with several hiking and cycling trails. At its heart is the protected complex of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary; there are also routes toward Bezděz and Žďárský les, a cycling loop via Houska, and landscape features associated with the lowland and the Okenský potok. This combination is of interest to travelers who want to include local history and specific routes in their plans.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Local History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a protected historic complex. The ensemble includes the church itself, the former cemetery, and the surrounding wall with three gates. The main and side staircases are also part of the complex. It also includes sculptures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, as well as a sculpture depicting the Assumption of Mary; a gravestone is also part of the site. The protected complex therefore extends beyond the church building to include architectural features, sculptures, and the former cemetery. A large bell dating from 1594 hangs in the church tower in Okna. This exact date adds a specific historical reference to the protected site.

Hiking Trails in Different Directions

The green hiking trail runs through the built-up part of Okna to the railway station and continues toward Bezděz. The yellow hiking trail starts at the railway station and heads toward Žďárský les. At the U Maršů signpost, it connects with the Březínské studánky nature trail. The railway station is a key point for orientation: the green trail passes through it, while the yellow trail starts there. The yellow trail also connects with the nature trail. When comparing the routes, their stated directions and reference points provide practical guidance for choosing between them.

Cycling Loop via Okna and Houska

The shorter cycling loop “Na kole Máchovi v patách po stopách zaniklých hradů” (Cycling in the Footsteps of Mácha, along the Trail of Vanished Castles) passes through Okna and Houska. It starts and ends in Doksy and is approximately 25 km long. Having the same starting and ending point makes it easy to recognize as a loop; its approximate length also provides a planning guide. There is also a cycle route in Okna used by tourists traveling to Kokořínsko. Thus, in addition to the specific loop, cycle routes associated with the journey to Kokořínsko are another local feature to consider.

Lowland, Bezděz and the Okenský potok

The broad lowland has its lowest point at 280.80 m above sea level. To the east, it is bounded by the panorama of Bezděz Castle. The elevation refers to the lowland’s lowest point, while the panorama describes its eastern boundary. South of Okna, the Okenský potok feeds a pond system near Doksy. These landscape details refer to different locations: the elevation of the lowland, the castle panorama to the east, and the stream south of Okna.
