Bratříkov: Freedom Monument, Farmsteads and Views
Accommodation in Bratříkov
If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Bratříkov, different interests may influence your choice: the history of the Freedom Monument and the farmsteads, or the landscape around the Žernovník stream and the U Lavičky viewpoint. You can choose your destination based on which of these themes you’d like to include in your travel plans.
Historical Traces in Bratříkov
The Freedom Monument, featuring a bust of T. G. Masaryk, was unveiled in Bratříkov’s small square on August 14, 1919. Erected with the help of a public collection, it was later inscribed with the names of the men from Bratříkov who fell in the First World War. A historical account of the municipality ranks it among the first Freedom Monuments of its kind in the Republic; according to the account, it was the first in the Semily District. Historically, Bratříkov belonged to the domain associated with Návarov Castle. The statues erected in 1812 therefore belong to an earlier historical period than the Freedom Monument unveiled in 1919. In terms of their subject matter, the commemoration of the fallen and the religious motifs of the sandstone statues stand in contrast to one another.
The historic farmstead in Bratříkov later came to be known as U Zámečníků or Na Rychtě. In 1812, three sandstone statues were placed by the farmstead: one of Saint Peter, one of Saint Paul and one of the Good Shepherd. The farmstead and the statues beside it still stand along the main road and invite travelers to stop and take a look. Check the conditions on site before visiting.
Stream, Quarry and Viewpoint
The stream and quarry are associated with different locations: the Žernovník flows through Bratříkov, while Pirochův Quarry was in Štebrov, a locality belonging to Bratříkov. It was situated in a valley between the slopes of Bratříkov and Těpeře. This places the quarry in relation both to the locality and to the two named slopes.
From the U Lavičky viewpoint above Bratříkov, the view takes in Černá Studnice, Bratříkov and Skalička–Hamrštice. Visibility may change due to vegetation and land management, so don’t expect viewing conditions to remain unchanged. If you plan to visit the viewpoint, bear this variability in mind when setting your expectations for the view.
A 2023 municipal visitor guide recommends approaching from Kostřavec Hill via Dolence in the direction of Loužnice. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
