Landscape, Trails and Glassmaking History
The narrow valley of the Pryský potok is enclosed by the steep slopes of the surrounding mountains. Prysk also lies in the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area.
An eight-kilometer circular hiking trail runs around Prysk. The Meixnerova pohybová stezka is 2.5 kilometers long, starts at the municipal office, and ends in the center of Horní Prysk. So when choosing a route, it’s not just the distance that matters: you can choose between a longer loop and a shorter route with different start and end points. This lets you consider both the distance and the route format.
The Meixnerova pohybová stezka features wooden trail signs by Petr Jelínek, a wooden footbridge, climbing areas, and information boards. It follows former glassmaking routes and is decorated with colored glass shards and glass sand. Traditional glassmaking is part of Prysk’s local character, and the route and materials draw on this tradition.
Cycling routes around Prysk cater both to families with children and to cyclists looking for more challenging terrain. When choosing a tour, you can consider two questions separately: Who is riding, and what kind of terrain are you looking for?
Different criteria come into play when choosing an activity: for hiking, the distance and route format are clear considerations; for cycling, your group and the kind of terrain you want matter. By taking both into account, you can decide whether a particular hiking distance or the type of cycling tour is more important to you.
Architectural History and Special Places
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul (Kostel svatého Petra a Pavla) is an important landmark in Prysk. The Baroque building was constructed between 1718 and 1721 on the site of an older church, based on designs by, or under the direction of, master builder Petr Pavel Columbani. The construction dates place the building in the early 18th century, while the earlier church site points to a previous period. Its history thus spans two periods: the precisely dated Baroque church and an older church that stood on the same site.
Prysk hosts the annual summer event series “Léto s Pryskem.” If you’d like to plan your trip around one of its events, check the dates for your travel period.
Riedelova jeskyně is a large, artificially created underground space. Its entrance is on the southeastern slope of Břidličný vrch, directly above the northern edge of Dolní Prysk. There is also a quarry near Prysk, which is now home to the Skalní divadlo rock theater.
