For a trip to Stružinec, you can focus on the landscape, outdoor activities in the surrounding area, or cultural heritage. The village lies in the valley of the Žlábek stream, the marked KČT cycling route No. 4174 passes through it, and sacred buildings and works of art recall different eras. If you are looking for a hotel in Stružinec, these themes can help you get a sense of the place based on your travel interests.

Valley, Hills and Views

Stružinec lies in the valley of the Žlábek stream. The valley is surrounded by the hills of Hůrka and Stránsko, and by the Mákové vrchy to the northwest. From Hůrka, the view extends across a large part of Český ráj. This brings together two distinct landscape perspectives: the valley around the Žlábek and the sweeping view from the hill. If you are getting to know the area through its landscape, the stream, valley and surrounding hills are as tangible points of reference as the view from Hůrka.

Cycling and Hiking Around Stružinec

For cyclists, the marked KČT cycling route No. 4174 is a direct link to Stružinec. It passes through the village and runs from Lomnice nad Popelkou via Stružinec, Košťálov and Benešov u Semil to Jablonec nad Jizerou. The surrounding area offers ideal conditions for cycling, running and hiking; cross-country skiing is also an option when snow conditions are good. The activities described therefore include options that do not depend on snow, as well as one specifically winter-dependent activity.

The red-marked Zlatá stezka Českého ráje hiking trail also runs near Bezděčín. The two routes are in different locations: cycling route No. 4174 passes through Stružinec, while the Zlatá stezka is mentioned in connection with the area near Bezděčín. This distinction can help you include each route in your travel plans according to the location you want to visit.

Sandstone and Sacred Art

In the lower part of Stružinec, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on a small rise on the left side of the road towards Lomnice nad Popelkou–Košťálov. It is carved from porphyritic red sandstone. Another sacred work is the stone group depicting the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, created in the Neo-Gothic style in 1855. The group shows Mary seated as God the Father and Jesus crown her; above them, the Holy Spirit hovers in the form of a dove. The group is considered one of the finest monuments of its kind in the Semily area.

Stružinec’s present-day bell tower is also made of red sandstone and was built in 1843. In 2022, a bell returned to the tower with the help of a public collection and donations from local residents. The dates refer to different events: 1843 marks the construction of the tower, 1855 the creation of the sculptural group, and 2022 the bell’s return. The history of sacred art in the area can thus be traced not only through its buildings, but also through their chronology.
