For a stay in Tannwald, you can plan around hiking, viewpoints, and railway heritage as different focal points. If you’re looking for a hotel in Tannwald, this breakdown can help you clarify your interests for the trip: the trails differ in their routes, while the tower, rock viewpoints, and cog railway each offer their own story or perspective on the landscape.

Hiking trails with varied routes

There are several walks to choose from, each with a clearly distinct route. The hike “Za jizerskohorským duchem Muhu” starts in Tanvald and leads via Terezínka and Černá Studnice. “Kolem Tanvaldu” is described as a circular route: from the stop in Tanvald, the trail runs via Špičák Saddle, Desná, Světlá, Šulíkova skála, and Svárov, returning to the Tanvald stop. The first hike names two places along the way; the second is a circular route that returns to Tanvald. The “Kolem Terezínky” outing takes you to places with views of Tanvald, the Jizera Mountains, and the Bohemian Paradise.

Viewpoints on Tanvaldský Špičák and Muchov

TerezĂnka is a brick-built viewpoint with steps on the slope of Mount Muchov. It is easily reached from Tanvald via a red-marked hiking trail. Its history dates back to 1853, when Johann Mayer had the 15-metre-high rock fitted with a brick-built viewpoint and railing.

Another viewpoint is the 18-metre-high stone tower on Tanvaldský Špičák. Dating from 1909, it offers panoramic views of the Jizera Mountains and the Czech and Polish parts of the Krkonoše Mountains. You can reach the tower on foot via marked hiking trails from Tanvald, Dolní Smržovka, Albrechtice, or Jiřetín pod Bukovou. Fanterova skála, a rock viewpoint that was opened to visitors in 1889, is also on Tanvaldský Špičák. The two viewpoints thus combine different historical dates with views of the mountain landscape.

Bike park and cog railway

For mountain biking, Tanvaldský Špičák Bike Park has around 12 kilometres of single-track, unpaved off-road trails. They run from the summit of the mountain down to the cable car’s valley station. The trails on offer may change; check which routes are currently available before making plans.

The railway heritage offers another perspective on the region: the Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov cog railway line has been in operation since 1902 and is considered the steepest railway in the Czech Republic. If you’re planning a ride, check the timetable in advance. This will help you fit the outing into the rest of your travel plans.

Cultural monument in Ĺ umburk

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi stands in the Šumburk district of Tanvald and is a protected cultural monument. Its foundation stone was laid in 1899, and it was solemnly consecrated on August 15, 1901. If you’re planning a visit, bear in mind that summer opening arrangements may vary.
