Sassadel – Culture, Winter Sports and Events
Accommodation in Sassadel
Sassadel lies at the foot of the Jizera Mountains, below the Černostudniční hřeben ridge. Different interests can shape a stay here: seasonal winter sports, the bike park, historic buildings, crafts and events. The occasion that matters to you may determine when to travel. The seasonal operating schedule of the ski centre should be taken into account; festivals and the traditional pilgrimage depend on the dates of the edition you wish to attend.
Winter Sports and Bike Park
Zásada Ski Centrum has two downhill runs. The children's slope is about 100 m long and suitable for beginners. The second downhill run is about 500 m long, 100 m wide and easy to navigate. The two runs therefore differ considerably in their stated dimensions: alongside the short children's slope, explicitly suited to beginners, there is a much longer second run. Operations are seasonal, so take the season into account when planning your trip.
Zásada Bike Park has numerous jumps and technical obstacles. They provide another focus for activities alongside the downhill runs. If you are interested in bike parks and these kinds of obstacles, Sassadel offers a different reason to visit than winter sports. You can plan your trip around whichever of these activities matters more to you.
Chapel, Monument and Craftsmanship
The Chapel of Saint Procopius is the most significant monument in Sassadel. It was built in the Baroque style in 1749. Its interior includes an intricately carved altar and oil paintings. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from 1823 and is considered a valuable example of folk architecture. The two dates distinguish these works chronologically: the chapel was built in 1749, and the statue followed in 1823.
Pearl processing is another local feature. By prior arrangement, ATLAS Zásada offers visits to the handcrafted production of fashion jewellery and fashion accessories made from small beads. Visits must be arranged in advance. A Liberec Region article dated 7 January 2025 also reported that glass is still being made in Zásada and that Preciosa Ornela's glass bead division is based there.
Events and Performances
The family music festival ZasTenRock has been held in Zásada by SK ZÁSADA since 2012. It takes place on the grounds of the football stadium. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the edition you wish to attend; future editions and their dates should be taken into account in advance.
The traditional Zásadská pouť is a family event held at Kapelní louka beside the Chapel of Saint Procopius. The chapel and the event venue are therefore closely connected geographically. Here, too, check the date of the edition you wish to attend before setting your travel dates.
For children, Loutkové divadlo Prokůpek regularly stages mainly fairy-tale plays at the Sokolovna in Zásada. Together with the family festival and the traditional pilgrimage, this gives Sassadel a distinct connection to events. The specific dates of the performances or events may be decisive when planning your trip.
If you are more interested in culture and crafts, the chapel, statue and pearl production offer distinct points of interest; visits to ATLAS Zásada must be arranged in advance.
