Březiny: Nature Trails, Hiking Paths and Local History
Accommodation in Březiny
Visitors who choose Březiny as a destination can get to know the village through its paths, townscape and history. Hills of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands surround the municipality and frame the landscape. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the attractions according to their different focuses.
Hiking Paths and Nature Trails
The approximately 1-kilometre-long Kukyho les is laid out as a circular route and is aimed primarily at children. Its eight interactive stations include, among other things, watermills, a tilting map with a ball, Hergotův domeček and Hergotmobil.
The Březiny Literary Nature Trail runs from Bělisko to Drašarova lípa. Its five stations present information about Vysočina, traditional crafts, and the work of writer Terezie Nováková and composer Bohuslav Martinů. One trail is designed for children and is interactive; the other brings together cultural topics.
The similarly named destinations serve different purposes: a green-marked hiking trail leads to Lunáčkova lípa, while Drašarova lípa is the endpoint of the Literary Nature Trail. Lunáčkova lípa is a winter lime tree more than 300 years old, 30.5 metres tall, with a trunk circumference of 602 centimetres.
Townscape and History
The Chapel of Saint Roch stands in the centre of Březiny. Traditional folk architecture includes simple, whitewashed cottages and farmsteads. Together, the chapel and rural houses illustrate the range from a single religious building to traditional folk architecture.
The Berkovna glassworks was established in Březiny in 1696. Around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, residents processed flax fibres into linen. The village’s history thus encompasses both a 17th-century industry and a later craft.
Exhibitions, Events and Regional Products
Various exhibitions of paintings and photographs are held in the former school building during the summer. Since the exhibition programme is seasonal, check the latest dates if you would like to plan your visit around one. Unlike the summer exhibitions, several events are part of the regular programme.
The regular programme also includes Pohádkový les. There are also tournaments in nohejbal, floorball, volleyball and table tennis. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the specific dates in advance.
Since 2015, the municipality has held Březinská padesátka, a 50-kilometre running race through the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Dates and registration details vary; check them if you would like to include the race in your travel plans.
Sýry z Březin makes fresh and aged cheeses, yoghurt and quark from cow’s milk. The range may change; check the current selection if you are interested.
