Dědová between moors and folk architecture
Accommodation in Dědová
At an elevation of 658 m, Dědová lies on a gently sloping valley hillside. From here, panoramic views open up across the landscapes of Skutečsko, Novohradsko and Poličsko. In addition to its elevation, the area is characterized by protected wetland habitats, trails through the village and examples of folk architecture. If you are considering Dědová as a travel destination, its landscape, opportunities for activity and local history come together here as distinct, clearly identifiable themes.
Moors, meadows and protected landscapes
The entire planning area of Dědová lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The Bahna Natural Monument protects transitional mires, calcium-poor moss fens, tall-herb communities, wet meadows with marsh thistle and meadowsweet, purple moor-grass meadows, and Nardus grasslands. These habitats are home to protected and endangered plant and animal species. The protected area therefore encompasses a range of different habitat types: moors and fens as well as wet meadows and Nardus grasslands.
The village district of Bahna and the protected natural area “Bahna” are used for recreation. The area’s natural features also include two distinct waterways: the Raná rises at the western edge of Dědová, while the Dědový potok lies in the eastern part.
Hiking and cycling routes
The signposted cycling route 4122 runs through the Dědová area on the Kameničky–Dědová–Vojtěchov section. A red-marked hiking trail passes through Dědová and continues to Krouna, Otradov and Česká Rybná; in the opposite direction, it leads to Kameničky, Chlumětín and Svratka. A marked hiking trail also runs in the opposite direction via Filipov to Kameničky.
Another named route, “Inspiration from the Painters of Vysočina,” runs from Hlinsko via Rataje, Dědová, Kameničky, Lány and Hamry, returning to Hlinsko. The information provides different kinds of guidance: route 4122 gives a number and a specific section, the destinations for the red-marked hiking trail are distinguished by direction, and the route “Inspiration from the Painters of Vysočina” lists a sequence of places and a return to Hlinsko. Before setting out, check the local signs for the trails and cycling route mentioned here; details of the route “Inspiration from the Painters of Vysočina” may change.
Local history and folk architecture
The first written record of Dědová dates from 1392. In the 19th century, the village was known for making wooden toys. These provide two distinct historical reference points: an early written record and a later focus on craftsmanship.
A public area with log houses built in the folk architectural style is located by the municipal office. House No. 12 is a significant example of this building style and documents traditional settlement in the Vysočina region, with preserved elements of traditional folk architecture.
A monument to the residents of Dědová commemorates the victims of the First World War. It is listed in the Central Register of War Graves under identification number CZE5302-6257.
