When planning a hotel stay in Hluboká, it is worth considering a range of themes: the geologically distinctive Pivnice Gorge, the Borůvka Lookout Tower, a route through the village, and specific cultural landmarks. These features appeal to different interests and help you understand Hluboká in terms of its landscape, orientation, and local history.

Pivnice: Landscape and Current Closure

Pivnice Gorge lies between Hluboká and Zderaz, south of the settlement of Dolany. As a natural monument, it is protected for its narrow gorge, cut into marl and soft sandstone. Its formations include a rock tunnel, a cave, overhangs, and erosion features. The rock types and formations can be distinguished: marl and soft sandstone form the geological setting, while the tunnel, cave, and overhangs are distinctive features of the gorge. This makes Pivnice a tangible landscape attraction, not just a name between several places. It is a clear highlight for nature lovers. However, there is an important planning restriction: Pivnice Gorge is currently closed because of dangerous landslides. Before your trip, check whether the closure is still in effect, and until then, do not plan it as an accessible destination.

Lookout Tower and Route

The Borůvka Lookout Tower near Hluboká is 18.5 metres tall and opened to the public on 4 June 2005. The two details serve different purposes: the height describes the structure, while the date marks its historical opening. If you would like to include the tower in your itinerary, check that it is currently accessible before your visit.

The Všivická Trail runs from Střítež through Hluboká to Kutřín. Road III/30532 connects Luže, Hluboká, and Perálec. The distinction matters for orientation: the trail includes Hluboká as an intermediate point on the route from Střítež to Kutřín; the road links Hluboká with Luže and Perálec. Both relate to Hluboká, but they are different trail and road connections.

Local History: Memorial and Chapel

The memorial to those killed in the First World War stands in the centre of Hluboká and was erected in 1924. The names of 17 soldiers who did not return from the war are engraved on it. The year it was erected places the memorial in the postwar period; the inscription draws attention to the individual people being remembered. Those interested in local history will therefore find both a historical and a personal connection to the First World War here.

The chapel kaple sv. Petra a Pavla, apoštolů is located in Hluboká, in the cadastral area of Hluboká u Skutče. Its name refers to the holy apostles Peter and Paul. Together with the war memorial, it offers another cultural perspective on Hluboká: the memorial is connected with remembrance of the First World War, while the chapel is a distinct religious landmark.
