Liboměřice is located in the immediate vicinity of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. The village is believed to have originated in 1329; the Meduna barn is associated with secret Protestant services held there until 1781. Cycling and the local landscape of ponds add to the historical themes. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Liboměřice, these local and landscape features can help guide your travel planning.

History and Religious Connections

The historic village is believed to have originated in 1329. Secret Protestant services were held in the Meduna barn until the Edict of Toleration was proclaimed in 1781. The two dates have different significance: 1329 marks the village’s presumed origins, while 1781 marks the end of the services in the barn. This places the village’s origins and a specific period in its religious history in chronological context.

A regional church history adds another local connection: people from around sixty villages in the Železné hory area originally wanted to build their church in Liboměřice; Hradiště was ultimately chosen. This story differs from the services in the Meduna barn: the church proposal involved a community drawn from many villages.

Landscape and Ponds

The Železné hory Protected Landscape Area is characterized by forests, meadows, ponds, fields and small settlements. Its landscape can be explored on numerous cycle routes and marked hiking trails. Liboměřice is located in the immediate vicinity of this protected area. Ponds and other bodies of water are also part of the landscape around Liboměřice. The NS Krajem Chrudimky educational trail follows the Chrudimka from its source to Chrudim.

A municipal landscape description dated March 10, 2014, puts the forest cover at 26 percent of the municipal area; ponds and other bodies of water cover two hectares. A small pond lies north of the village, while larger ponds are located southwest and east of the village.

Cycling and Getting There

A signposted local cycle route runs through Liboměřice. Check the current signage before setting out. The tourism strategy published in 2023 for the 2021–2028 period shows Cycle Route 4177 continuing through Liboměřice to Samařov and gives its total length as 37.5 kilometers. This length applies to the entire route, not just the section in Liboměřice. The route through the village and the length of the full route are therefore two separate points of reference for planning a ride.

For bus travel, the municipal description, last updated on January 28, 2023, lists route 620706. The stops are listed in this order: Chrudim, Rabštejnská Lhota, Křižanovice, Liboměřice, Bojanov and Seč. Check the current timetable before you travel to make sure the service fits your travel date.
