Radiměř between architectural history and rolling hills

Two themes can help you decide whether Radiměř is right for your trip: the architectural history around St. Anne’s Church and the hilly landscape of meadows, forests, farmland and pastures. The St. Anne’s Church and cemetery complex occupies a prominent position in the centre.

St. Anne’s Church and other buildings

The listed St. Anne’s Church is a late Baroque building dating from 1771–1776. It also preserves an originally Gothic presbytery from the second half of the 14th century, which remains as the eastern chapel. Inside is a late Gothic wooden relief carving depicting Saint Anne Selbdritt, dating from the early 16th century. St. Anne’s Church thus brings together different periods: medieval origins, a late Gothic artwork and a late Baroque church building.

Local attractions also include the Chapel of St. John. The Holy Trinity Column in Radiměř dates from 1888. Together with St. Anne’s Church, these buildings give an impression of the variety of the area’s architectural history.

Landscape and nature around Radiměř

From the highest point in the entire market town of Radiměř, you can see the surrounding countryside, neighbouring municipalities and the city of Svitavy. The landscape’s history is also connected to Bohemia and Moravia: sections of the Radiměřský potok stream formed the historic provincial border between the two lands within the area of today’s municipality. The views and the history of the border offer different perspectives on the surroundings.

The Radiměř Butterfly Kingdom is near Radiměř, not far from Svitavy in eastern Bohemia. Its habitats include warm slopes, field margins and scattered orchards, as well as short-grass dry grasslands and mesic meadows. In places, there are very dry, naturally treeless white slopes and small wetlands. The range therefore extends from dry sites to wetlands.

The area has exceptionally high biodiversity, including several orchid species and dozens of butterfly species. Species observations may change with future surveys. The critically endangered butterfly modrásek černoskvrnný (false chequered skipper) is also found there; its presence and abundance vary seasonally. For your trip planning, this means that the buildings offer fixed historical reference points, while nature observations are seasonal.

Cycling the Radiměř–Svojanov route

The Radiměř–Svojanov cycle route is marked with road signs and passes through Radiměř, Rohozná and Svojanov. The route is challenging, yet suitable for all types of bicycles. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the route conditions and signage. This lets you include a cycling trip as a focus in its own right alongside architectural history and nature in your travel plans.
