Telecí: Timber Farms, Churches and Landscape
Accommodation in Telecí
Telecí brings together rural architecture, churches and a protected landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Telecí, these features can help you get a sense of the destination before booking. Particularly distinctive are the enclosed “poličské” farmsteads, the Lukasova Lime Tree and memorial sites from different periods. A yellow-marked hiking trail adds a named route via Lucký vrch to Borová u Poličky to the village’s history.
Valley, protected area and Lukasova Lime Tree
Telecí lies in the long valley of the Telecký potok and is part of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The valley forms the immediate landscape setting; the protected area also places the village within a wider landscape. The Lukasova Lime Tree, also known as the Zpívající lípa (Singing Lime Tree), is a specific natural landmark. It is estimated to be about 600 to 700 years old. In 2021, it was chosen as Tree of the Year. Its age and award offer two different ways of understanding the same lime tree: the estimate describes its age only approximately, while the selection is recognition from a particular year.
Enclosed farmsteads and timber construction
The southern part of Telecí has been a village conservation area since 2005. Many timber houses and farm buildings have been preserved there, forming enclosed three- or four-sided “poličské” farmsteads. The term describes a farmstead whose buildings enclose the courtyard on several sides. Farmstead No. 16 is an exceptionally well-preserved example of this type and is built almost entirely of wood. Here, the enclosed layout and extensive use of timber construction come together in a specific named example. Telecí also preserves two rare polygonal timber barns at house numbers 10 and 89. They add another named building type to the farmsteads and show that the architectural heritage is not limited to just one kind of agricultural building.
Churches and memorial sites
The architectural history includes the Catholic Gothic Church of St. Mary Magdalene and the Evangelical Toleration Church. A separate bell tower stands by St. Mary Magdalene and is thought to date from the 16th century. The Toleration Church in Telecí was built in 1783. A memorial at the rectory beside this church commemorates meetings of a well-known resistance organization that gathered there during the Second World War. These buildings and the memorial mark different periods: the tower’s presumed date, the church’s construction in 1783 and the meetings during the Second World War.
Hiking trail and exhibition about the lime tree
The yellow-marked Stezka Terézy Novákové hiking trail leads from Telecí via Lucký vrch to Borová u Poličky. For planning purposes, this named trail can be distinguished from the village’s other features: it gives a route through two named places and a mountain in between, while the farmsteads and churches represent its architectural and historical themes. Legends and stories associated with the Lukasova Lime Tree are covered in an exhibition in the historic cellar of neighboring house No. 102. If you would like to include the exhibition in your stay, please check its current accessibility in advance.
