Vcelakov: Church, Local Architecture and Hotels
Accommodation in Vcelakov
Vcelakov offers several points of interest for planning a trip: late Neoclassical church architecture, a Baroque statue, preserved original log architecture, and connections to the landscape and sports. Part of the area lies within the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.
Landscape and Cycling Route
The protected landscape area designation applies to part of Vcelakov. This is a specific regional detail to consider if the landscape is a factor in choosing your destination. Cycling route 4120, from Vysoká nad Labem to Čachnov, also passes through the area. Its number and the stated endpoints give you concrete reference points for route planning. Check the current signage before setting out.
Church, Art and Architectural History
The late Neoclassical church kostel sv. Máří Magdaleny was built between 1844 and 1848. Its wall decorations were created after 1928 by the local priest Jan Kohel. The building and its wall decorations therefore belong to different periods: the nineteenth-century architectural history is complemented by a later local contribution.
The Baroque statue socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého in Vcelakov dates from 1740. It provides a much earlier point of reference than the church: the statue was created more than a century before construction of the church began. This comparison helps place the named artworks and buildings in their historical context. Original log architecture has also been preserved in Vcelakov. The local architecture thus ranges from individual dated works of art and the church building to a traditional building style handed down over time.
Another church-related feature is the Boží hrob (Holy Sepulchre) in the church. It is unveiled to the faithful at Easter. Unlike construction dates and preserved architecture, this is a recurring religious tradition with a seasonal connection. If you are visiting at Easter, this is relevant to the timing of your trip.
Other Local Points of Interest
The flooded shaft Žumpa reaches the surface in the middle of Vcelakov. There, it is lined with concrete and equipped with a pump. This adds a technical point of interest to the church art and traditional architecture: the shaft’s location in the village and its construction are the main features.
The “Stopy ležácké tragédie” educational trail points to the nearby burned-down settlement of Ležáky. This connects trip planning in the village with its surroundings. The trail adds another geographical point of reference to the buildings and architectural themes.
Sports Highlights
The Sušidla sports complex has three courts and a football pitch. Along with cycling route 4120, these represent different sports-related topics: for the route, the focus is on its connection from Vysoká nad Labem to Čachnov and its course through the area; for the sports complex, it is the courts and football pitch. This allows you to consider these aspects separately from the church and architecture themes when planning your trip.
