Dobré Pole: Salt Meadows, Local History and Winegrowing
Accommodation in Dobré Pole
Nature, local history and winegrowing give Dobré Pole a clear identity. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Dobré Pole, these themes can help guide your choice of destination. The focus is on protected salt meadows, a hilly landscape in the northeast of the municipality, and historic buildings. Agriculture and winegrowing have also traditionally shaped the municipality.
Salt Meadows and Hilly Landscape
The protected natural monument Slanisko Dobré Pole preserves inland salt meadows. Rare plants found there include the Pannonian sea aster (Tripolium pannonicum), slender hare’s-ear (Bupleurum tenuissimum), sea milkwort (Glaux maritima) and Bessarabian dandelion (Taraxacum bessarabicum). The dung beetle Aphodius plagiatus, the short-winged conehead Aiolopus thalassinus and the wolf spider Pardosa maisa are also among the notable and rare species. The area also protects other rare plants and animals, including specially protected species. The salt-tolerant plant sea milkwort also grows in Slanisko Dobré Pole.
A different landscape can be found in the northeast of the municipality, where the hilly terrain extends into the national natural monument Dunajovické kopce. The area protects many rare organisms. The ridge offers a distinctive view of Pálava, as well as views in every direction. The natural features are therefore quite different: Slanisko Dobré Pole is known for its salt meadows and the species that depend on them, while Dunajovické kopce is notable for its hilly landscape, rare organisms and wide-ranging views.
Church, Cross and Wayside Shrine
Among Dobré Pole’s historic buildings is the single-nave early Baroque church kostel sv. Cecílie. It was created by enlarging a chapel originally built in 1653. A stone late Classicist cross dating from 1835 stands in front of the entrance façade. A relief depicts Our Lady of Sorrows. The church and cross offer different ways of exploring local history: the church’s development from chapel to church is one point of interest, while the cross’s design and dated relief are another.
A wayside shrine in a field is also one of Dobré Pole’s sights. Together with the church and cross, it is another point of interest for anyone interested in religious architecture. The buildings differ in form and can therefore be viewed as distinct stops in the story of the village.
Winegrowing and Local Character
Dobré Pole has traditionally been shaped by agriculture and winegrowing. The wine cellars are located mainly beyond the railway station and in the part of the village known as Za Vedrovým. These two local landmarks make the municipality’s winegrowing character more tangible: it is evident not only as a general tradition, but also in named areas of the village. These winegrowing locations add another local perspective to Dobré Pole’s natural and cultural attractions.
