Hlohovec offers travelers interested in exploring architectural history and landscapes together several specific points of interest. The Hlohovec area lies within the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. The regional setting can be experienced through individual buildings, the Hlohovecký Pond, and other landscape features. Hiking and cycling are also part of the local experience and offer different focuses for planning a trip.

Architectural History in Hlohovec

The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape was created mainly in the 18th and 19th centuries under the rule of the Liechtenstein family. Two buildings in Hlohovec display different characteristics: the Church of St. Bartholomew is a single-nave late Classical building dating from 1832. The Classical Hraniční zámeček was built on the shore of Hlohovecký Pond in 1826–1827. The buildings were constructed only a few years apart, but their styles are described differently: late Classical for the church and Classical for the building by the pond. Visitors interested in architecture will find two different types of buildings and a specific historical timeframe here.

Pond, Ridge, and Avenue

Hlohovecký Pond is both a specific local landmark and part of a wider nature conservation area. It lies within the cadastral area of Hlohovec and is also part of the interconnected system of the Lednice Ponds. This pond system is protected to preserve birds and other animals, plant life, and the character of the landscape. The pond is therefore both a feature of the municipality and part of a protected network of water bodies.

Stará hora rises west of Hlohovec. Remnants of steppe grassland have been preserved on its Tertiary limestone. Boří les extends into the southeastern part of the municipality, while the scenic Bezručova Avenue runs through Hlohovec. These features represent different landscape elements: limestone and steppe grassland at Stará hora, woodland in the southeast, and an avenue that crosses the area. The landscape extends beyond the pond.

Hiking and Cycling

Hlohovec is a starting point for hikes and bike rides among the Lednice Ponds, former Liechtenstein forests, and vineyards. Cycle Route 411 offers a more specific guide: it connects Valtice, Hlohovec, Hraniční zámeček, and Lednice over a distance of approximately 12 kilometers. The two descriptions have different focuses. The hikes and bike rides take place across a wider landscape; the cycle route names a specific sequence of places and an approximate distance. If cycling is important when planning your trip, this gives you a named route as a point of reference, while the tour description covers the broader landscape.

Traditions and Local Food

Traditional Slovácko costume festivals are held in Hlohovec twice a year. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the event dates in advance. Local dishes include opuchlé buchty, žgance, and slížky. Visitors can also drink wine in local wine cellars. Since visiting arrangements may vary from cellar to cellar, it is best to confirm the details of a specific visit in advance.
