Kozárov: Distant views at Babylon and regional culture
Accommodation in Kozárov
Kozárov on the western slope of Babylon
Those considering Kozárov as a travel destination will find a village on the western slope of Babylon Hill. The terrain is hilly and offers distant views. A considerable part of the cadastral area lies within the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. This brings two different scales together: the village’s hillside location and the fact that part of its cadastral area belongs to a larger natural area. When finding your bearings, you can take both the immediate location and its connection to the nature park into account.
Views from the Babylon Lookout Tower
In clear weather, the Jeseníky Mountains, including Praděd, can be seen to the northeast from the Babylon Lookout Tower, while the hills of Pálava are visible to the south. These distant landmarks lie in different directions, and clear weather is a condition for the views. The site has refreshments, toilets and a covered shelter for about 100 people. As the facilities’ operation may change, check their availability before your trip.
Route and getting there
The route “FROM KOZÁROV TO KRKATÁ BÁBA” is 19 km long. It starts at the Kozárov bus stop and ends in Újezd u Černé Hory. Part of the route can be covered by bicycle. For planning purposes, it is therefore important to consider the total length and the cycling option separately: 19 km is the length of the route as a whole, while cycling is possible only on one section. If you plan to include a bicycle, do not assume that the entire route can be cycled.
Kozárov has a regular bus service and is accessible by car all year round. Before travelling by bus, check the current timetable for your travel date. This will help you plan your journey to the village while also taking the route’s length, starting point and endpoint into account.
Chapel and local customs
The Chapel of St. Anne was consecrated in 1919. It was built to commemorate an accident and in honour of St. Anne; a statue of the saint was also planned. Four crosses stand on the access roads to Kozárov. The chapel provides a dated reference point in the village’s history, while the number and location of the crosses along the access roads are their specific features.
The pilgrimage in honour of St. Anne includes a pre-pilgrimage celebration and a pilgrimage celebration. Masopust (the Czech pre-Lenten carnival) is celebrated in Kozárov with a procession. At the Zabíjačka (pig-slaughter feast) at the lookout tower, visitors can sample traditional pork specialities. Krojované hody (traditional folk-costume festivities) include a celebration, an Ortel and a traditional dish featuring a ram. These events differ in form, ranging from a pilgrimage and procession to celebrations and culinary elements. If you would like to plan your stay around one of these events, check the dates in advance.
You can sort the information by interest when choosing a destination: scenery and distant views, the 19 km route, or local history and customs. This can help you decide whether views, a longer excursion or cultural themes matter most for your stay.
