Lanžhot: Floodplain Landscape, Cycling Route and Folk Culture
Accommodation in Lanžhot
Lanžhot lies in the floodplains of the Dyje and Morava rivers; characteristic floodplain forests and meadows shape the surrounding area. Highlights for your stay include protected habitats, a marked cycling route, sports facilities, as well as folk culture and local history. Depending on whether you want to focus on nature, activities or regional culture, you can discover the town from different perspectives.
Floodplain landscape and protected habitats
The area of the Lanžhotské pralesy National Nature Reserve extends partly into the cadastral area of Lanžhot. Protected habitats include floodplain forests and oak-hornbeam forests, as well as reed beds, stands of tall sedges, meadows and pastures, and aquatic plant communities. The reserve is therefore not only about forested areas; it also encompasses open, wet and water-based habitats.
Cycling and other activities
The marked Moravská stezka cycling route passes through the cadastral area of Lanžhot. From there, it runs by Obora Soutok and then along Hraniční cesta to Břeclav; at the same time, it connects the Jeseníky Mountains with South Moravia. This lets you see the local section as part of a long-distance cycling route.
The Sokolské sports complex includes an inline skating track, a fitness room, a children’s playground, a workout playground, tennis courts and a pétanque court. Another activity option is the pump track in Lanžhot, completed and opened to the public in 2025. It is for children, young people and adults to ride bicycles, scooters, balance bikes, skateboards and inline skates. The sports complex brings together a variety of courts, training facilities and play areas, while the pump track focuses on riding several types of wheeled sports equipment.
Folk culture and local history
The Lanžhot Museum presents folk culture through historical household furnishings, historical clothing, and old and contemporary local folk costumes. It thus highlights everyday domestic life and clothing, as well as local costume traditions. For travellers who would also like to discover Lanžhot’s culture, this is a specific area of interest alongside nature and activities.
An entry from 1373 mentions the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Povýšení sv. Kříže) together with the parish school. This early written reference complements the ethnographic perspective with a historical connection to the town and provides a clearly dated point of reference for its history.
The Lanžhotské hody is a recurring three-day festival. On Saturday, a hand-built maypole structure is erected across the entire square; the event concludes with the traditional song “Tá lanžhocká mája tenká…”. If the hody are important to your stay, check the event dates in advance.
