Němčice lies in the southwestern part of the Drahanská vrchovina. The cadastral area borders the Moravian Karst to the southeast. These two details provide a sense of location: the first describes where Němčice lies in the highlands, while the second identifies the southeastern part of its cadastral area. The local landscape features forests and hiking trails, as well as several sites of cultural and historical interest.

Landscape and Walking Trails

Forests consisting mainly of conifers surround Němčice on two sides. They offer opportunities for walks in nature. East of the village, a multipurpose water reservoir lies close to the forest and is considered a popular area for health, relaxation and leisure. The forest, walks and reservoir represent different aspects of the landscape; the reservoir is a destination in its own right and should not be confused with the hiking trails.

A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Němčice along the Valchov–Němčice–Sloup–Macocha Abyss–Skalní mlýn route. The hiking trails that pass through Němčice are part of the extensive tourist network of the Moravian Karst. If you are planning a hike, this helps you identify both the section that passes through the village and the longer route. Check the route and trail markings locally.

Cycling Routes and Their Course

Local cycling route 5117 runs outside the built-up area along the western side of the Němčice cadastral area. It leads from Blansko via Petrovice to Boskovice. Cycling route 5204 connects to route 5117 at the southwestern tip of the cadastral area and continues via Kuničky and Újezd u Boskovic to Boskovice. The routes described therefore differ not only in whether they are marked as hiking or cycling routes, but also in their course: the yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Němčice, while cycling route 5117 runs outside the built-up area. Route 5204 begins at the southwestern tip of the cadastral area. For specific planning, check the route and local signage for cycling routes as well.

Church and Historical Traces

St. Nicholas Church stands on elevated ground in the center of Němčice. Two bells dating from the 16th century hang in its tower. The church, which belongs to the municipality, has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1993. Its location, bells and protected status offer different historical points of interest for a visit to the village center, without requiring a particular walking route.

Another historical trace is the Němčice windmill, built by the miller Matuška in 1840. Skalka is also located west of Němčice, above the Pálenec forester’s lodge. It is a site with a narrow strip of Devonian limestone. Iron ore was mined there in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The church, windmill and Skalka therefore represent different subjects: sacred architecture, mill construction, and the geological and industrial past of the area.

Exhibitions Nearby

Near Němčice, the Dům přírody Moravského krasu offers interactive indoor and outdoor exhibitions, as well as a 3D cinema. These exhibition options complement the trails and historical sites with a cultural activity of their own. Check the current visitor program and facilities before your trip.
