Novosedly Na Moravě – Wine Trail, Local History and Nature
Accommodation in Novosedly Na Moravě
If you are looking for a hotel in Novosedly Na Moravě, you can plan your stay around winegrowing, local history or nature. The Stará Hora wine trail, the Church of St. Ulrich in the village square and the Slanisko Novosedly area offer different ways to explore the area.
Vineyards and trails around Stará Hora
The Stará Hora wine trail has been open year-round since April 2005 in the vineyards of the Marcinčák winery in Novosedly. It is 3.5 kilometres long and has eleven information boards. The trail is also part of the 37-kilometre Stará Hora cycling loop. This gives you two different route lengths to choose from: the wine trail is a shorter walk through the vineyards, while the cycling loop covers the same theme over a longer route.
You can also visit the Marcinčák winery and see how wine is made. It offers wine tastings year-round; confirm the arrangements again before travelling. Víno Ritter offers guided wine tastings for groups of five or more. The Víno Ritter wine cellar is open to visitors during the main season. Confirm both the tasting arrangements and seasonal access before your visit.
Romanesque traces and special habitats
The church dedicated to St. Ulrich stands in the village square. Ulrich is considered the patron saint of those who suffer and the sick. The building is one of the few original Romanesque churches in the Břeclav District. Romanesque windows can be seen in the attic, while Romanesque ashlar stones have been preserved in the walls. These details give the church a distinctive architectural character: the windows and masonry reveal different traces of Romanesque architecture.
Slanisko Novosedly offers a different kind of interest. It is the last significant site in the Czech Republic for the endangered narrow-leaved grass (Heleochloa schoenoides). The area also provides a habitat for tree frogs and fire-bellied toads, as well as nesting birds such as marsh warblers and great reed warblers. Visitors interested in native species can find a connection with nature here alongside the vineyards.
Museum and local history
The “U starého lomu” museum displays a reconstructed vz. 37 light fortification structure from the Czechoslovak fortification system of 1935–1938. The museum is open during the tourist season. You can find out the exact opening hours by phone or on the website; check them before your visit.
Festivals and wine traditions
Krojované hody usually takes place on the second Sunday in August; check the date for the relevant year. The festival includes a costumed procession to Mass and the blessing of the festivities at the church. The regular wine harvest festival in Novosedly was revived in 2003. During its procession, participants visit wine cellars and wine taverns, and the right to serve wine is renewed. The programme may change from year to year.
At Novosedelské sklepy open, visitors can tour open wine cellars where local winemakers offer their wines for tasting. The programme may also vary between editions. If you would like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.
