Sedlec U Mikulova lies in the Pálava Protected Landscape Area and the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve under the auspices of UNESCO. Landscape, wine and architectural heritage shape different sides of the town. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether you want your trip to focus on the natural and landscape features around Sedlec, wine experiences or historical landmarks.

Nature at Nesyt and in the surrounding area

Slanisko u Nesytu lies right next to Sedlec, bordering the western shore of the Nesyt pond. At almost seven hectares, this salt marsh is considered the largest in the Czech Republic. Nesyt is the only pond in the Lednice pond system whose shores have retained their natural vegetation. Wetland plants grow in the reed beds, where greylag geese, grebes and ducks regularly nest.

Special plants also grow at Slanisko u Nesytu, including the yellow-flowering Hadí mord maloúborný, the Panonská hvězdnice and Solenka Valerandova. The Skalky offer a different natural setting. They consist of numerous fossilized remains of single-celled bryozoans and algae of the genus Litothamnium, which lived in a prehistoric ocean. The Skalky are covered by a flower-rich feather-grass steppe, where rare plants, birds, praying mantises and smooth snakes can be observed. Flowering and wildlife viewing are seasonal.

The confluence of three streams is another notable natural attraction in the area around Sedlec. When planning your trip, you can choose between wetlands and pond shores or the steppe landscape of the Skalky as distinct nature experiences.

Historic sites and culture

Portz Insel was the center of an extensive designed landscape on the Moravian-Austrian border, laid out by Cardinal Dietrichstein in the 17th century. The historic brick bridge at Portz Insel has 15 arches, has been restored and is open to visitors. The Portz Insel project also created an educational trail with six information boards and rest areas.

Other architectural and cultural landmarks in Sedlec recall different periods. The Church of St. Vitus was remodeled in the Baroque style and rededicated to Saint Vitus in 1672. The Baroque Panská sýpka has been a cultural monument since 1966 and is exceptional in scale. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1717 stands on the road from Sedlec to Portzský mlýn. The history of Sirné lázně also dates back to 1362.

Educational trail and wine route

The educational trail on Portz Insel features six information boards and rest areas. Another option for planning your trip is the Moravian Wine Route, which runs from Hraniční zámeček via the Nesyt pond to Sedlec.
