Discover Spešov: Observation Tower and Local History
Accommodation in Spešov
If you are looking for a hotel in Spešov, it is worth first considering the reasons for your stay: the municipality combines a location on the Svitava with traces of crafts, mining and local history. There is also an outdoor pool and other local facilities. This lets you weigh up whether you want to focus primarily on the landscape, history or a seasonal swimming option during your trip.
Between the Svitava, the Valley and Kešůvka
Spešov lies in a valley on the right bank of the Svitava and alongside a stream. The village is also at the foot of Kešůvka, an outlying hill of the Hořické kopce. Blansko is 4 km away; Spešov is also on the boundary of the Moravian Karst. Both its riverside location and its connection to the karst area are therefore part of the village’s geographical setting.
Observation Tower and Local History
Spešov’s observation tower invites you to stop briefly and take in a varied, undulating landscape. Its design combines traditions of carpentry and metalworking with municipal symbols and historical elements. The tower thus brings together views of the landscape and the village’s craft traditions.
The chapel is also part of the village’s history: it was built in 1856 to commemorate the averting of cholera. Adits from former iron ore mining are also visible on the western slopes of Spešov. The chapel, observation tower and adits offer different historical points of reference—commemoration, crafts and mining.
Geology, Educational Trail and Outdoor Pool
The Vápno area contains Tertiary shell limestone with numerous fossils. This geological feature dates back far beyond the visible traces of local history. The “Po stopách starých ovocných stromů” educational trail introduces some of the most common local fruit tree species. If you are planning to visit the trail, check its condition locally.
Local facilities in Spešov include the outdoor pool, a volleyball court, a beach volleyball court and a children’s area. The outdoor pool has seasonal opening hours: in June, it is open Monday to Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm. In July and August, it is open daily from 9 am to 8 pm. Check the opening hours before your visit, as seasonal operating times may change.
The Moravian Karst as a Regional Feature
The Moravian Karst is one of the most significant karst areas in Central Europe. More than 1,100 caves are known throughout the area, five of which are open to the public. In the Punkevní Caves, you can take a boat trip on the underground Punkva River, combined with a visit to the bottom of the Macocha Gorge. These regional natural attractions complement the local features of the river, observation tower and mining with a distinct perspective on the karst landscape.
